i would second the duncan custom but also recommend researching the duncan custom hybrid...it has the snarl and bite of a custom but with a much warmer low end (something gibson pickups excel at) because it is lierally one coil of a custom and one coil of a duncan 59 which is supposedly based on a paf...d.m.

My favorite for cutting through with "bite and snarl" is the D-Activator bridge, but everyone else hates them so probably disregard the suggestion... lol. Maybe my ears have taken to much damage through the years, but in a basswood guitar with a trem it sounds great both clean and with gain.
