I am not much of a Dimarzio fanatic but now I am thinking about giving it a shot and see how it sounds. How does Tone Zone 7 for bothe bridge and neck sound?
Using the same pickup in both positions (unless there are specifically calibrated neck and bridge versions) isn't a good idea. The neck pickup will be MUCH louder than the same pickup in the bridge position. If you want the same tone curve, email DiMarzio and see what they recommend as a good match.
If you really want a Tone Zone (which you may not, I'm just saying), I'd say go for it. I play a good amount of metal, and I think it works MUCH better for really heavy tones than EMGs or Seymour Duncans. It's my favorite pickup.
Gotta side with Grindifend here, ToneZone is a fantastic pickup! For metal, there is no better pickup. It's hot, pinch harmonics fly off the neck, it's very articulate, great tight bass.... what more could a person ask for?
my PGM10th has TZ's on both positions and it sounds awesome, no level difference (of course, properly adjusting PU height). I don't know how the TZ7's match the 6 version, so I don't know if my point is valid.
