Ok bought this for about 300 and I love it. I searched the net but have not found any info on this Charvette. While searching I came across this forum and decided to see if any of the members have come across this model.
charvette was charvel, i just think charvette was the model line. There is a crackle charvette at a local pawn shop, i tried to find some stuff on them too but was unsuccesful.
That's a 90's Charvette, probably made in Japan. Come on over to jcfonline.com, which is the Charvel/Jackson forum. You'll find some good info there in the "Imported charvels" section
Thanks a bunch! The guy who sold this to me said it was early 80's 'course the guy could be lying. The back to stickers are so warn I can no longer read where it had been made from.
I think the earliest a Charvette can be is '92, but it might be a little later. There are no 80's Charvette's though, as they didn't start using that name until well after the Model series of Charvels was over.
I'm pretty sure they started producing the Charvette line in '88 or '89. I purchased one new from a local music store in 89. As stated previously, the Charvette was a lower priced line produced by Charvel to compete with the likes of the Yamaha Pacifica, Peavey Nitro, Kramer Nightswan, Applause GTX, Dean Jammer, Aria Pro, and other guitars at their price level. Mine was a yellowish-orange finish with black crackle, and if I remember correctly I droppped about $370 for it. It was a solid guitar for the price, had a thin profile neck that played great, and a Dimarzio Dual Sound I had put in the bridge really gave it a great tone. The only thing I was less than happy with was the Floyd Licensed trem. It would constantly lose tune on the middle strings with light trem use or even string bends. A tech tried 3 times to make adjustments so the thing to hold tune but narrowed it down to it being some sort of flaw in the trem itself. I traded her off in 1991 toward my first Ibanez.
I had a charvette once. It pissed me off one day so I through it across the room one day and the headstock broke off!!! Then I torched the body and now I use it as a launch pad for fireworks on the 4 of July!!!!

some of the charvette stuff was crap. many had "plywood" bodies. the model 170 and 270 were the bomb. i have a model 170 with a h-s configuration and i love it. the slightly shorter scale gives me a sound between a gibson and an ibanez.
