FAQ and Guitar Info Update for Homepage

Hi guys, I have a suggestion for the moderators and admin. Why don't we guys put some of the sticky posts (such as trem retrofits) as well as new Ibanez guitar information regarding newer products like 5-piece necks, titanium reinforcement necks, new JEM and JS models, etc. so that the newer members would need to ask about these things less?

Additionally, why don't we put a very noticeable search box somewhere in the homepage so that members and/or visitors could simply type in a query and check if their questions have already been answered before.

I'm thinking that maybe you guys have had enough of people asking questions you've already answered in the past, and so these might improve things a bit.

Hope you'll consider this, thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll let other Mods give their opinions on sticking threads... With regards to the "Prominent Search Box"... 'Search' appears in the nav-bar just below the Sponsor Banners... We will consider putting it in a more prominent place.

Re: FAQ and Guitar Info Update for Homepage

My own view is that most of the new membes don't tend to read the stickies anyway, it tends to be the more experienced members who realise that stickies contain the good info. New guys tend to post their own, new threads rather than use the search function.

the other problem is that often specs change and understandings of situations can also change so that info gets out of date and the mods don't have the time to keep on top of the details of some of the stickies so in some cases, a new thread is highly appropriate.

That said, there's nothing wrong with the mods stickying anything that seems like it could be beneficial for everyone here as long as the members tell us when we need to take them down again

The other thing I'd like to request is that members should always contribute to threads, but if we're going to have "factual" stickies, I'd ask folks NOT to post answers in them if they don't know for sure.

what jono said. it's hard to gather/compile all info while keeping it up-to-date.

with search & tagging finding useful info should not really be a problem.

in another thread i posted asking for some 3-character items/products/names that the search engine should include. that will allow more searching of things like JS2 for example... glen
