Ibanez JEM 777 SK - HELP with damage appraisal please

Help!

A ceiling fell on my Ibanez JEM777 SK and it is busted, visible damage is e.g. severed neck and chipped coating. Luckily I am insured, but this vintage guitar is just impossible to replace.

But I need a professional price estimate, here is the guitar info:

Ibanez JEM sk (shocking pink)
Serial# 870471

As the serial number says, it was made in 1987 (the first run of JEMs) and was item number 471. Its pink color is still strong (it did not fade to orange or worse).

The instrument is ruined - It is a great shock to me, the neck was just phenomenal and actually got more slick as I played it more. The insurance company can not estimate the value and this is probably the most professional forum for me to appraise it.

I hope you can help!

Bummer about the axe. Hopefully no one was hurt when the ceiling fell in.

Ask and you shall receive.

22 JEM777SKs sold on the bay since March 2008

Hi Price $2550
Lo Price $751
Ave Price $1540
Median Price $1450

The above prices reflect case queens, road warriors and everything in between. The above prices also reflect an original pink-lined case.

My own 777SK is an 87 s/n 870288 and it has the early pre lawsuit hand rest. I paid $1500 for it almost two years ago. I rate mine an easy 9/10.

This should give your insurance company enough information to make a payout.

Being an 87' is a $500 premium, unless it's a complete beater.

.
That guitar is worth an easy $2500 if it's really a 9, and I'm pretty sure you know it.

We all called this guy an idiot, guess who's laughing.

Absolutely not. They paid a little high for what is claimed to be a showroom condition first year DY with rest in original 87' pale pink case. Condition and 87' w/ rest add a huge premium to these guitars, the case was what completed it and made it bring top dollar.

Being the "idiot" who paid for it, I completely concur with Rich's assessment. That, combined with the fact that I've wanted one of these all my life, and the strength of the Aussie dollar right now made this a very attractive buy for me.

Don't judge others so quickly, or you'll probably find yourself being judged.

I'd say congrats. One like that may come up once every few years.

Was it all it was claimed to be?

I've not taken delivery of it yet. Am expecting it to arrive Monday or Tuesday. Will post back when it arrives.

The vendor seemed like a very knowledgeable and friendly guy though - been collecting rare instruments for many years, answered all the questions I threw at him and seemed to really know his stuff. I'm expecting a fine guitar.
