Acrylic/ Lucite Jems

Well I was just snooping around this site as well as ebay and such, and I was wondering if anyone has actually owned one of the Acrylic Jems and has posted a review of how it plays. Also, does anyone know where to purchase it? The ones that actually have (or seem to have) Vai's multicolored pups (The green and pink ones, sorry, name slips my mind at the moment) I know he released the 20th anniversary version which is the plexiglass version with the same pups I am referring to. Thanks for any information. I've been through these forums quite a few times, and enjoy the fact that there are no flamers or anything of that such here.

Re: Acrylic/ Lucite Jems

That anniversary Jem was the only "real" acrylic Jem made by Ibanez.
The clear ones are fakes.

As one of those fakes was just listed on ebay tonight, and in case that's what you might have seen and haven't done any research yet, if it's under $4000 be very suspicious. Not that you might not find a deal at some point under that, but hopefully you'll know everything you need to by that time.

Exactly!
Do your research and ask here before buying!

Re: Acrylic/ Lucite Jems

I was actually looking for the clear ones for a friend who said he wanted it. I was just curious if anyone has actually bought, played, and given feedback on it. I told my friend it won't even sound relatively close to a jem, or possibly not even a guitar for that matter, but he just wanted it for the looks and such.

We don't promote counterfeits here, so you won't get much info.
They're junk!

Re: Acrylic/ Lucite Jems

Has someone bought a junk/replica/copy and if so how were they?
I know everyone frowns on replicas but someone must have bought one.
So any opinions?

There's a difference between replicas and counterfeits.
These are counterfeits. They're junk--that's all you need to know. Stay away from them.

....waiting for Rich to chime in........

Re: Acrylic/ Lucite Jems

Yes I did mention that they are junk. I own real JEMs but not the acrylic.
My plan was to purchase one and replace the neck and hardware.
You know an experiment that us gear heads indulge ourselves with sometimes.

I suspect someone must have bought one and found many things wrong with it esthetically but I like to know what is right with it functionally. Remove from your mind that it's not an Ibanez and a JEM but just a guitar.

Do a quick site search and find out why we don't discuss the merits of counterfeits.
