Floating bridge tune problem

I would like to post the question if the floatingbrige can be a bit more rigid. When taking my tremolo arm for instance, as subtle as possible without any resistance the tone is being effected also with resting my hand on the bridge lightly the tone gets sharp but thats maybe a normal known issue. I am a professional player, but its my first guitar with a floating bridge.

Thx for your help/advice

Re: Floating bridge tune problem

If you want to use the trem then there's no way to stop the pitch raising by your palm. The old backstop device by Ibanez or the current ESP Arming adjuster would only stop the pitch from pulling down due to bends.
You maybe find your problem is only sitting down as you haven't adapted your playing style to compromise. When sat down you must try bending the wrist out and the butt of the palm inwards to be similar to a standing position. Not comfortable at first but awareness of this is a start.

Re: Floating bridge tune problem

Yeah, you will have to adapt, and learn to not rest your hand so much on the bridge. Some guys do it with floating trems, but you have develop a pretty light resting position or you will be moving the bridge. It's just the nature of the beast.

You can always install a blocker if you don't want it to pull up.

Re: Floating bridge tune problem

I really do miss the bite I used to get from playing near the bridge and resting my palm on it. I now play mostly around the bottom of the neck!! I think, subconsciously, my hand stays well away from the trem just incase!

I rest my palm on the trem.. i have no problems.. I use stock Fender trems, Foyd Rose, Ibanez edge pro III i have no problems with any of these trems. Practice practice practice..is all I can say...I've been doing it so long I guess I don't think about it.. when I play a non-trem if I'm not thinking I find myself sometimes reaching for the trem arm....lol!
