Smile meshugga signature. what where they thinking

Dear Readers,

As you all know Ibanez has reached the annual time for releasing new guitars.
Now I am always enthusiastic about the new grub, jet I cannot say the same about Ibanez' 8-string meshugga signature.
first of all the price 8K seems a bit out of order.
The 10k fireman seemed that as well, but at least i bought that guitar with the feeling Japanese luthiers where risking their lungs by working with poisonous Korina wood. But not only the price is kinda weird, the fact that it has 1 pickup, jezus, for that price i would least expect 2, but 1!! c'mon.
o, yeah it has an Ibanez bridge, well 8k, no kahler?........ what's left.
I mean I love Ibanez bridges, but being it made by Ibanez the price would go down to the material kost and the machine costs, no luthier required for the bridge! and if not worse, 8 strings are a son of a bitch to find strings for that should add to the price in longtermes. anyway enough of my opinion I would love to hear yours.

Re: meshugga signature. what where they thinking

You do realize the FRM you bought listed at $9333, so by your logic it was an extra $1333 for the 2 extra pickups? Seems to me the M8M is a deal in comparison

I don't agree at all. How can you buy the FRM but then say they're out of bounds on the M8M? Is one any less than the other, besides being $1333 less

Re: meshugga signature. what where they thinking

I have to agree with Rich here. There is nothing that "special" about the fireman to make it worth that much just like there isn't with the M8M. Ibby charges what they feel they can get, and using you as an example, they got the money from you on one.

Just guessing, but I'm figuring that given the 29.4" scale-length and it being a 8-string, they figured people won't be playing clean or jazz on it, so why install a neck pickup? Not to mention that it's a signature and they didn't want one.

Re: meshugga signature. what where they thinking

Both are a rip off in my opinion but if I was going to get an 8 I'd rather buy a Strictly 7 Solar 8 string with OFR for $2390 made in the US.

You could buy two 8's and one 7 for the price of the one Ibby. Not to mention that Strictly7 has a custom shop as well.

Re: meshugga signature. what where they thinking

Ok let me start with saying I am glad where al enthusiastic.
as far as the FRM. it has 3 dimarzio humbuckers, and is made of special korina, witch in myeyes makes it so and so more valuable. and it is a unique design, I don't know if you have noticed but the m8m is just an rg its practically the same as the ordinary rg8 without the pickup and a transparent finish. Anyway I mus agree the most with guitarnoise (user) who says their both a ripoff, the pickups are similair to ordinary fenders and the korina wood doesn't really influence the sound.

Re: meshugga signature. what where they thinking

I cant tell you how important it is for a neck pickup.. The shreddy tone you get when your running fast licks just cant be had from a bridge pickup..

Guess I will have to take my 8k elsewhere..

Jokes aside, no one is forcing anyone to buy this guitar. its obviously for 8 string players in well paid bands to buy or collectors.. no one else needs to buy it.. You can get an 8 string prestige and play just as well on it.. the 8k price tag wont make you 8k better in sound/tone.

Obviously most will come to the quick realization that they cant afford the 8k Meshugga and settle for the prestige or RG8 which is exactly what Ibanez wants.. Sounds like Smart business to me !!

Re: meshugga signature. what where they thinking

Value aside, I never played one but from what I listen on whats available on the net the PGMFRM1 is one of the the nicest sounding guitar from ibanez so far.

Sure it has lots to do with gear etc. but seems its capable of getting many tones with controls available on guitar.

meshugga looks nice...but if we compared the 2 guitars seems a lot more can be done with the PGMFRM1...

Also there is the collectors value side of things (which isn't always easy to simplify with money). Personal opinion; Never heard of meshugga but I don't think such music will have followers with deep pockets in future...

This says pretty much all there is to say on teh subject in my opinion. The only thing I'd need to add is that the list price is (as normal) higher than the street price. It's also important to remember that a "run of the mill" Sugi will still set you back several thousand dollars, that's before you add in an unusual scale length, two extra strings, and the toll-manufactured signature model effect...

Oh and I voted "I dislike the m8m but its probably worth 8k" It's not really a"dislike" more "general indifference towards" but I can't imagine you'll get a "better" 8 string without signifcantly changing the specs, and tht means it wouldn't be a Meshuggah signature model. But I figure for a Sugi and such a specialised one at that, then yeah, it probably is worth what it costs.

o and i would like to say that i voted for"I like the guitar but it's to dear" honestly I think its a badass guitar. the absent of a neck pickup makes it look kinda plain in my opinion but further than that it's a nice guitar.

Re: meshugga signature. what where they thinking

Those buying these could care less what some other company can make for how much less money. They're buying these because this is exactly [or close enough] to what they've wanted, they appreciate Ibanez guitars and always have, and they're willing to pay the true sales price [not the ultra inflated List price everybody loves to sensationalize and rant about]. Not that they're cheap, but they're not made to be cheap. The RGA8 is made to be cheap and if you want the cheap alternative you'll buy that [or anything else you prefer] instead.
