People have to be completely ****ing stupid to believe that.

I honestly couldn't believe that people thought it was real.

No magnets...
I haven't tried it to see if it works, but either way, how does this turn into a an Americans are stupid thread?

Re: The 1 Dollar Speaker

Surely most of you know that you need 2 wires for a speaker of any kind, connecting one wire to a penny even a really shiny one is not going to do anything.

Connecting a real speaker with one wire is not going to do anything - you need to close the circuit for anything to happen.
Bamm gets a star for joshing us with his "I've not tried it to see if it works".
If you were serious - watch the linked video.

This works. I heard these were used as Malmsteens main speaker setup when he recorded the Steeler album.

Just to add to that thought, aren't pennies made mostly of Zinc not copper? Which I would think wouldn't be much of a conductor anyway.

Re: The 1 Dollar Speaker

It doesnt work.
My son showed me the video and asked if we could try it.
We spent about a half hour laughing and having a good time trying different things.

I'd do it again if he wanted too, it was fun bonding.
