For a PC the beeps tell you what is the problem, eg as you say memory or processor. Look in the manual under trouble shooting.

For a start with a PC I would reseat the ram and probably the processor too. Make sure all cables are properly plugged in. I dont expect there is much diference in a mac (assumption).

It's a integrated board so the processor is attached. On a mac 3 beeps mean that no memory banks passed the test. I would re-seat the ram also and try that.

well no, they are nice, i love mine, but i obviously have something hardware related in mine. if it is a faulty ram or something, its not apple's fault, its who ever made the ram. thanks for the replies, i will look into it. im still going to take it into the apple store, get them to look at it

Re: 2011 macbook pro makes random three beeps and freezes

Google returned plenty of hits, one of which points to Apple's site:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1547

Which in turn points to:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2341

It does indeed sound like a RAM problem. If it's under warranty you're in luck, which I think you are with such a new machine.

Re: 2011 macbook pro makes random three beeps and freezes

well a few days ago i brought it to an apple store genius bar, and i think they fxed it. sure enough, when i brought it in, it wouldn't freeze up, but they did re install lion, and re seat the ram, that was 4 days ago, and no freezing, and i swear it is runnng better than when i first got it almost 2 months ago.

Re: 2011 macbook pro makes random three beeps and freezes

I've been having the same problem. It started like you describe, freezing and 3 beeps. Then it got to a point where it would happen very frequently. Then my computer would refuse to start up. Somewhere in there I took it to the apple store where they first reseated my ram, which didn't seem to help. Then they tried replacing the ram, which also didn't solve the problem, although it did seem to help a little. Finally they took it in, and replaced the ram the logic board and the screen for some reason. This helped for a little while, but that was it. Finally i got a new macbook, loaded my stuff onto it and about 2 months later its starting to freeze and beep again. Not sure what is causing this, but my situation perhaps suggests that it could be a problem on the software side of things, unless i got **** ram 3 times in a row.
