Re: Afghanistan Plane Crash

The camera was a dash-board cam that is quite common over there to cover for accidents and stuff.

Looks like the plane went up too steeply and lost lift due to low airspeed, stalled, and crashed. It is amazing to see how little chances people have once things go haywire. Feel bad for the families. It is a private company hired by the military, so in my eyes, still "military" and still worthy of honor.

Re: Afghanistan Plane Crash

Still can't believe it's real. Talk about scary for those vehicles and folks nearby. Prayers go out to the families for those onboard.

Re: Afghanistan Plane Crash

looked like he was really taking a steep angle. I bet there was a cargo shift due to the angle. Not a passanger plane so that is good.

Re: Afghanistan Plane Crash

Here tv news said cargo got free and moved to the back(obviously), pilots couldn't keep the balance, we can hear they "pumping turbine engines"(don't know the right term in english) right before falling down, if you ever flew with hang-glider(I hope this is the right name), you know the feeling

That would definitely make sense cause you can see the plane just lose all momentum.

No disrespect intended for those that died, but civilian contractors aren't associated with the military in any form or fashion. Hard concept to illustrate, but they never took an oath to defend the country. They are there to make a buck is all. Not much for "honor" frankly, at least comparing it to members who die in the military. Sorry to be contentious, but its very near and dear to my heart.

No, you're right, and I apologize for the offense.

Soldiers in Australia get paid very well, I assume the same can be said about the US soldiers ??

Re: Afghanistan Plane Crash

I saw something interesting about this today. Typically, a fully loaded 747 would make a very gradual takeoff and would not reach 15,000 feet for about four minutes. In Afghanistan, due to the fear of being shot down, planes take off much more steeply and reach the same altitude in about two minutes.

The person on the video said that such a high angle of attack combined with possible cargo shift would be catastrophic.

It is crazy the number of things that are now being caught on camera due to dashboard mounted cameras.

No offense mate, just something that's often misunderstood. Thank you for accepting my explanation as well.

military members in the usa are either grossly overpayed, or grossly under paid. It really depends on your job. An IT person in the military gets paid a LOT more then a civilian, but a civilian security guard at a high profile location makes a lot more then your average soldier. there's other benefits that balance it out (free healthcare being a huge, under rated one), they certainly aren't starving.
