Question Another computer problem

I turned on my laptop yesterday evening, and I got this message here.

What it says, is that user32DLL has been moved in the memory, and therefore it will not work properly. The movement was necessary, because C:\WINDOWS\system32\HHCTRL.OCX occupied an adres range which was reserved for system DLL-files for Windows.

It says I have to contact the supplier of the DLL-file in order to get a new version.

So what do I have to do? Do I have to re-install Windows?

Alwin

Re: Another computer problem

Alwin,

Do you have Service Pack 2 installed? If you do, try going to the windows update website and download all the updates for your system that windows suggests. If that doesn't work, go here and download the fix from Microsoft:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448/en-us (For English systems)

This page will let you specify what language you want the update to support:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Apparently, the problem relates to a Realtek audio control panel. Hopefully this will solve the problem.

Re: Another computer problem

Thanks a million Jimmy. I'll check that out. I also have this program called Avid, which is this video editing software. When I load it, it gives me an error message in which it says something about the sound aswell. That's got to be related to the problem, I think.

Thanks again.

Alwin

Re: Another computer problem

I'm pretty sure it is. Download the patch and follow the directions on how to install it. I'm sure it'll ask you to reboot the machine once the patch is installed. Next time you load avid, the error should more than likely be gone.

I don't know if I have SP2 or not. It doesn't show up in the list of Windows updates?

Re: Another computer problem

Alwin,

Go to your desktop, right-click on "My Computer", then click on "Properties". It should tell you what your processor speed is, amount of ram and service pack number, among other things.

Aside from that, by looking at the pictures, the language that was preinstalled for your windows copy is probably not dutch. To determine the language version of Windows XP that you are using, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, and then click Search.
2. Click All files and folders.
3. In the All or part of the file name box, type winver.exe, and then click Search.
4. When the file is located, right-click it, and then click Properties.
5. Click the Version tab.
6. Under Item name, click Language.

The language version information is displayed under Value.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Another computer problem

I've got SP2 and the language is Dutch. I just found out what I did wrong. I didn't click on the 'change' button next to the language selection box, you see in the pictures I posted.

It's installing now. Let's hope it fixes the problem.

Re: Another computer problem

It fixed the DLL problem, but the error message in Avid remains.

I downloaded Avid for free from their website. It's a sort of demo version, for which they don't give any support.

Do you have any idea what the problem may be, Jimmy?
