Anybody else watching Planet Earth on Discovery?

Well, I've tuned in to Discovery Channel tonight to watch Planet Earth. I was intrigued because they've been showing ads for this thing like every two minutes for the last month or so, and the photography looked really amazing.

However, I'm a little put off by it as it seems to be nothing but animals eating other animals. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about predator/prey relationships, and I'm more prone to donate money to the NRA than PETA. But it's a little old after two hours. They've got beautiful shots of landscapes, rarely seen species, etc. Amazing stuff. And I'll admit, the Great White shark jumping out of the water after the seals in slo-mo was awesome. But crap, EVERY scene ends with some animal getting eaten or dying after some sort of peril. I get it already! They should have called the series "Sh*t Gets Eaten on Planet Earth."

Granted, it's not a donkey show, but it will work.

True. Maybe they'll send the camera crew to Tijuana for the next episode. Let's see Sigourney Weaver narrate that one with any sense of dignity.

"And so, the coupling completed, the donkey collapses in spasms of exhaustion. Unlike so many females who do not survive this strange ritual, this one will live to perform again. She limps tenderly back to the dressing room to prepare for the 5pm show..."

I have to admit that Discovery Channel is running out of ideas as to what to show on their channels. It is usually about animals eating other animals. Its always about the Impala eaten by the Cheetahs or the wilderbeast being eaten by a group of lions. How about these for a change.

1) Animals eat man
2) Man eat man

I am sure these will make the viewers glued to their seats.

I have to admit that I kind of hooked on the Merkat show.....There is often death of one of the members of the show...usually a pup etc. but I get interested in the fate of the little guys. Besides, what else is there to watch on Fri now that Battlestar is on Sun now?

Excellent point. I'll watch "How it's Made," but after that we usually end up watching stuff we've TIVO'd earlier in the week. I actually missed BSG last night, but I've got it recorded. A friend of mine told me this morning that it was the season finale and that it was a great episode. I'll try to get to it tonight.
