Anyone Else Into Horses?

Just like my deep passion for guitars and music, my daughter's passion for the last 8 years has been horses. We've had a few but recently we had an opportunity to acquire "Indio", a 7 yr. American Paint.

Horses can be just like a pet - and this one really is. He's 16.3 hands and still green, but has a great disposition and doesn't spook at anything.
He just completed the 07 show season where they participated in a tri-state show almost every weekend.

Anyway, I thought it would be different to post about something other than guitars....anyone else into horses?

Re: Anyone Else Into Horses?

very cool indeed. I love horses.

Just curious, how much do you spend on your horse per year? I'd love to get one in the future, but i'd imagine the vet, food, etc. would be too much for me.

....for anyone who feels that Jems are an expensive hobby

My 8 y/o daughter LOVES riding. She's had some lessons and I would love her to continue, but lessons around here are upwards of $40 for a half-hour.

My step-daughter takes lessons every week (her dad pays) so we're aroudn them a lot. Mrs. Doe was on the equestrian team in college - she is a very experienced rider, but doesn't do much anymore.

The two girls were taking semi-private lessons for a few months this past spring

on our honeymoon in Jamaica, we rode bareback into the ocean - it was RELLY cool - if you ever get an opportunity to try it, DO!

We also took a vacation to VT a few years ago and rode Icelandic horses there. that was a very pretty ride thru the mountains and the horses are small with a very comfy gait.

My mom has some Tennessee Walking Horses up in VA, but they're really not my thing.

Those horses are so little. They are like large dogs...
JK, I can't help it, I grew up around Belgians. Huge horses that definitely command your respect, because you'll get none out of them.
Still awesome though. I love the big brutes.

Funny, we just went to the track tonight. THe boys got to hang out in the winner's circle, pet some real horses, etc.
We figured they would enjoy it, and we were right.
Amazing animals, truly.

Re: Anyone Else Into Horses?

Yep, we have 2 "beast of burden". Well, more fairly, I fund them, my wife and daughter enjoy them. We were boarding for a year before we moved here. My wife grew up with a horse, so it's a givin that I'll always be working to support her horse habit I suppose. We found it was better to take our boarding money and add it to our mortgage and just buy a play where we could keep them.

Their names are Risky and Flame. Why doesn't anyone name their horses Dave, or Bob, or Dirk....or Darin?

Re: Anyone Else Into Horses?

I live on a horse farm, and we have a few, but I don't ride or anything. We board horses too, so theres quite a few ones that aren't ours here too. They're pretty cool to be around, but we've also had a few get sick and had to be put down lately(well in the past 2 years or so).
