Thumbs up Anyone still play records?

Is anyone still into records? I just picked up a good turntable and I'm thinking of buying a new stylus for it. Any suggestions on what make or model would be a good buy?

I still listen to records occasionally, but I am clueless about what a good stylus would be. Maybe you can find a chat room or someplace where rappers hang out and you could ask there?? It's just a thought. they'd probably know.

Heck yeah! Records are great. Go to a garage sale and get a dozen albums for 2 bucks!

Re: Anyone still play records?

I still have a TON of old LP's. Mostly 70's and 80's stuff. Lots of hair band records. The best thing about them is the album art. Looks a lot better on those big covers than the little CD case inserts. I keep meaning to get rid of them. I hate to just throw them away, but I don't know that it would be worth the trouble to try to put them on the Bay or whatever.

I understand that there are a lot of audiophiles who prefer to listen to music on vinyl, but I never got that. I think it all sounds much better in digital. And I've never had to tape a penny to the laser on my CD player to keep it from skipping.

I agree. The album covers were great! You don't get the same detail with CD's. I say keep your records and some day you could show your grandchildren what you used to listen to back in the day.

Got a few records, but no record player anymore! I'm in two minds whether to sell all of my picture discs.
I do miss the album covers though, especially the Iron Maiden ones.

What the heck is a record??? You guys are dating yourselves

You might as well start a thread titled: Anyone still play 8-tracks

I have some old records that my dad gave me, but no turntable.

Two 8 track tapes left. ACDC Back in Black and Steve Miller Fly Like an Eagle.

Daddy was a metal head

Pics please
Sadly my dad wasn't into heavy metal and didn't keep any of his 8-tracks. My brother did get some of his Elvis and Beatles 45's and one or 2 78's though.

Re: Anyone still play records?

I have a ton of vinyl but my player took a crap on me, so sometime in the future I'll get a new one.
I have old stuff like Dio and the original Return of the Jedi soundtrack as well as some newer punk stuff like Catch 22 and the Misfits. The Misfits one is weird. It's a 33 1/3 on one side and 45 on the other.

The cool thing is that if a record takes a complete crap and is unplayable you can still hang up the cover on the wall. Holy Diver just doesn't look the same if it's not a vinyl case.

Re: Anyone still play records?

I don't no, because I wasn't around in the days of records, lol. I was born in the casette and CD era I'm afraid. My Mum and Dad's LP collection is upstairs in the loft somewhere, haven't been used for donkeys years now.

Dont records gain value over time if they are by a certain artist. I found a Frank sinatra Record going for 9 million. here: the item# is 110108225601

Re: Anyone still play records?

I still love throwing vinyl on the turntable. My favourite album would have to be the quadraphonic version of Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon.
