Anything to do in Miami?

Hey boys (and girl)

The future missus and I are heading down to south beach this Friday for the weekend. We'll be taking a side trip to Key Largo on Sunday, but we're otherwise looking for good food, drinks, music, fun, etc.

Anybody have any experience down there? We will have a car and a GPS

Wow, cool, Kenny! You guys are lucky. I've always wanted to visit there and i'd definitely go to Miami Ink to get inked if I was ever down there too. Have a safe trip and take some pics too.

I'd leave the future Mrs Doe home. Ever hear the saying "...sand to the beach". How about let TFMD and Mrs Cid hang out in NY, and we go.

Well, I lived there a few years ago, and I sure could tell you a lot of fun stuff that I did, but I'm not so sure that's what you'd want to do

Cruise up and down Collins avenue. There is an absolute ton of stuff to do on Collins, Ocean, and Washington. Just drive until you find a neat place that you like.

Barton G's is a crazy good restaurant, with the most unique presentation of food I've ever seen. Get the zen tuna trio. I don't want to tell you about it, it will really surprise you. Actually everything will, even the price. So be prepared. But I really think this place is awesome.

There is a really neat argentinian bakery on 79th, I think. I can't remember the exact street number, but it's around there, and they have these awesome ham and cheese sandwiches. Trust me, you'll end up getting a box of them.

Go to Mango's and get a mango mojito, and watch a bunch of drunk people dance for a little while. It's kinda fun. The wander on over to the Clevelander.

Coconut grove is also a pretty neat spot to go to also.

Where are you staying?

I could probably go on and on...

If you are feeling decadent hit the spa at the Mandarin Oriental.

Everything you mentioned sounds good so far....we're staying at the Ocean Spray, which is at Collins & 41st (Arthur Godfrey Drive), a block from the Beach.

Go on and on!

elcid, TFMD IS the sand at the beach We'll have to head down there some other time without the mrs's

Re: Anything to do in Miami?

Oh, here's a few other things as well...

Check out Le Tub. It was voted best hamburger in America by GQ, and got rave reviews by even the likes of Oprah Winfrey. It is a little north of Miami in the Hollywood/Dania Beach area, which is like a 15-20 minute drive from where you are staying. But the drive is cool, and the scenery is worth it. It has a great view of the intercoastal, good food, and unique decor. Very easy to get to.

Seminole Hard Rock Casino is supposed to be very nice. I haven't been there yet, but I have a friend who just recently got divorced and she spends every weekend there now and loves it.

You are staying in an excellent location. Go about 30 blocks north and see if you can find that argentinian bakery! It is killer!

Just found some info for it: Buenos Aires Bakery, 7134 Collins Avenue. Get the ham and cheese sandwiches. They have all kinds of great stuff there. The mango pastries may be tempting at first, but you will find them everywhere in the Miami area. Mangos -> Miami = Snow -> Denver.

If you're driving back north, stop in Jax and check out a killer guitar collection!

Were flying into Ft Lauderdale around lunchtime on Friday, so maybe Le Tub will be our first stop - it's on the way to the hotel. The casino part sounds good, but the 4 hour drive there doesn't. Any casinos closer to town you'd recommend?

We'll be going to Key Largo on Sunday...any ideas in that direction?

I'm a big fan of the mango. I'll fit right in. All i need is a light blue dinner jacket and some white patent leather shoes and they'll let me move in

No further North than Ft. Lauderdale, unfortunately. I've met quite a few Jemsiters and never been disappointed.

This is all really good info - if you think of anything else, let me know!
thanks

Re: Anything to do in Miami?

From Ft. Lauderdale airport, that is perfect. Just head south, and Le Tub is right on the water, maybe 10 minutes from the airport. Driving from Ft Lauderdale to Miami is very nice and easy. Don't bother getting on 95 at all. It is just a pain in the ass most of the time.

Seminole Hardrock Casino is in Hollywood, right near Le Tub actually, only maybe 20 minutes away from your hotel. Hollywood is like right in the middle of Ft. Lauderdale and Miami.

Re: Anything to do in Miami?

I think you'll have a really good time no matter what you do. The weather is great this time of year, and Ft Lauderdale is a great airport to fly in and out of. No hassles, no lines, easy to get to.

You will have a great time just cruising the beach and Ocean Ave and going to different little spots, having a few drinks and people watching.

Go south on Collins to 5th st. That is the main street that will take you over to the downtown area. If you take a left towards the beach, that's kind of where the strip area starts. You can just cuise up that and see a lot of sights.

Oh yeah, there is also a place down on Alton in between 3rd and 2nd that has a bar/restaurant with a big pool in the middle that is right there at a marina, which is a pretty cool place as well. It's kind of fun to sit there and watch a bunch of drunk people swim. A lot of nice boats pull up as well.
