Like this is some atrocity?...... Get over it! These girls were probably more uninformed and frightened from all that was happening than "abused" or "exploited" or humiliated. Heck, they are 13 and 15 years old..... like what, you don't have gym class over there? Heck, when I was in Jr. and Sr. high school we showered after gym class! And it wasn't in privacy, we had at least 25 others in the shower along with a coach walking around making sure we weren't getting into trouble or pulling some kind of prank.
Funny we push sex and sexuality in every other facet of life, but God forbid require someone to get naked in a situation other than the privacy of their own little room and you'd think the world was ending!
As far as being strip searched.... it may be required of all the kids. Just think if they weren't searched and some other kid hurt them with a weapon that was smuggled in.... then you'd be all up on your high horses whining because there wasn't a policy of searching them.
Also, did anyone consider that their clothing was taken because they may have had lice, bed bugs, or any number of pests that could be carried in their clothing?
And what about having their pictures taken..... duh, didn't they have that done when they got their passports? Get a grip people!
Oh hell no..... you'd all rather cast stones, assume the worst, and act all appalled. Looks more like a reason to bring suit and get an easy money grab to me!
I'll bet there's more to this story too..... hmmmm, she comes down with pneumonia in a day or two? More like she made a bad decision to do international travel while sick already! The mother probably never checked what U.S. policy was if she became hospital bound or quarantined or incapacitated.
If there was any oversight here it's why the British Consulate wasn't contacted! We (the U.S.) should have done that or at least suggested it, but it was just as much the mothers responsibility too!
Just another unfortunate situation sensationalized by the press for the "sheep" to cry wolf over..... looks like it's working!
Let's face it there is far more to international travel than just getting your passport, buying tickets and hopping on the next flight!
