I know over the years I have seen several posts on here about people with back problems and even some who have sought surgery for it, so I thought I would try to get some advice.
I have had some degree of back pain for 10+ years due to the kind of work I have done (mainly improper lifting techniques on my part). About a year ago though I fell off a ladder and started experiencing severe lower back pain and sciatic nerve pain. The only treatment I sought was ER, where they x-rayed me to insure nothing was broken and pain meds.
Fast forward to present day, and now armed with insurance I finally started seeing my general practitioner. Long story short: An x-ray and an MRI revealed a bulging disc and stenosis (no surprise). My practitioner has set me up to see a pain management specialist and talked of me going to a specialist for surgery. My Dr didn't have any real answers for me about my options or even what treatment involves though.
My question is does anyone know what I can expect from this pain management specialist, and what the normal treatment is? Would I be better off just going down the surgery route? Do I have other options and what has worked for you?
