I cancelled my subscription to Guitarist, it seems to have gone down hill since the change in editor.
I don't like their gear reviews, I simply don't trust their reviews enough to base my purchase selections on their recommendations - I can trust reviews by some of the guys here more than I can those by a journo with whom I have no raport!
and the pics don't tend to show the crucial details, like bridge height, neck joint clearly enough! I don't know who half the interviewees are anymore and I don't tend to learn anythig from the tutorial stuff.
I've enjoyed Total Guitar more recently, simply because they have more interesting backing tracks and more songs to learn from a wider range of genres. It's more mainstream and less "guitary" almost, as much a music mag as a guitar mag.
Guitar Techniques is the real geeks mag, it's very dry, but very informative, there's a LOT to learn in each issue
If I still had a burning desire to improve rather than the mild urge so to speak, this is what I'd get - I like this one (Hi Nev).
The other issue I have with guitar magazines about gear imho is that they're now outdated by the internet. How can any guitar magazine provide cover of a NAMM show like Rich can, "updates on the hour every hour" so to speak.
