Best way to ship from the US to Europe

Question for all you import-exporters out there.

I want to buy a guitar from the US and have it shipped to Europe. The guy I'm buying it from went to USPS, they said it was too large to ship it. UPS quoted it on 5-600 euros for shipping to europe. Anyone has any suggestions on how to ship it for a decent price?

If it's shipping to Belgium it's packed far too large. They allow 60" length and 108" combined L+W+D. Far bigger than you need to ship a guitar.

You could always ask USPS to wrap the guitar in shipping envelopes. They do not have a problem doing that. (Just to be clear, I was the recipient, not the sender. Miraculously, the guitar was completely fine.)

On a different note, I sold a guitar through a broker to someone in Australia and the broker told me having a business account with DHL enabled him to ship guitars all over world and and still have money. This was awhile ago but if memory serves me, I would have had to pay a few hundred dollars more to ship the guitar myself.

I'm not suggesting you should abuse the system but finding alternative ways to ship a guitar seems far less egregious than the packaging method USPS employed in the above pic.

I would suggest having the guitar shipped in two seperate packages and without a case. Unless this is some rare/collectable guitar or a set neck/neck-thru, I don't see any other way to do it. You'll save money by purchasing a new case domestically after the guitar arrives. Of course this doesn't help if we're talking about something akin to an LNG in an original numbered case.

It is unfortunately a rare guitar so I'm not very willing to do that

The package is 50 x 20 x 8 inches. That would seem like something acceptable to me?

Called USPS, they said it qualifies (50 x 20 x 8 ). Apparantly the lady at the USPS office just had some brainfarts.. all is well Jemsite-friends!
