Braces and Expanders.

Ok. I just reccently got braces. Plus this expander thing that's supposed to fix my cross bite. Its a pain to talk with the expander because it stops my tongue from touching the roof of my mouth to say things like eat or neat. Or any word or letter that needs the tongue to touch the roof of the mouth to say.

Plus. my teeth hurt when i try to eat. like mainly the front top and bottom two teeth. and with the annoyance of the expander, the food that can be eaten without pain in the teeth get stopped by the expander and i tend to gag.

This thread is mainly about eating with braces because all i have been "drinking" are jamba juice and soup.

So are there other foods that i can eat? Because im getting tired of spending money on jamba juice and drinking soup.

Re: Braces and Expanders.

great thing about braces is that they don't always feel crappy in your mouth. Become second nature very quickly.

Yes and the pain is usually just temporary (after tightenings).
Good luck, I had them for 4 years as a teenager, and then I still needed jaw surgery after that.

Re: Braces and Expanders.

that pain sucked after tightening. i remember for the next day and a half how bad it was. you couldn't even touch your teeth for a day. you get used to it (not the tightenings though.) good luck. i wouldn't suggest wasting your money on jamba juice though. buy some drink boxes or something.

Re: Braces and Expanders.

yeah its only bad when its been recently tightened. itll slacken off aswell as your mouth adjust to it so it wont hurt to eat anymore. you just gotta grin and bear it for a lil bit.
its worth it when its all done, trust me

Lol, I've just got normal train tracks but I've got that annoying whistle too! It's such a pain in the bum.
Do ex/current bracers also find that your flow of speech was hindered? Like you weren't as fluent as you used to be and your were more 'tounge-tied' then you normally were previous to the brace?

If u mean the expander, then no. only once.

but the pain is all gone on the top. but still the front four teeth on the bottom still hurt like crap!

The pain will go away by the next day or so.

oh yea and shredmaster, took ur advice. bought some juice boxes. but also bought some fruits and protein powder so that when i cant eat normal foods, ill just whip up a "jamba juice" like smoothie. and the protein helps since its substitutes for the protein found in meat.

Re: Braces and Expanders.

I can't talk correctly... I just have braces, no expenaders or anything else. It hurts a ton after tightening (especially the first few) but you get used to it. One of my brackets actually fell off the other day but my next appointment is close so I'm not too worried.

Apparently I sounded like a drunk before my I got my braces anyway, so I cant really say. But my friends speech has become a lot better because of it, because the braces moved something somewhere and now he can speak a lot more fluently than he used to.
