Computer HDD - Getting less free space than deleting?

Hey hopefully-tech-savvy jemsiters.
I got a external hard drive the other day (WD Passport 1tb), and have started moving a lot of junk of my PC. I know I have to have deleted at least 10 gigs, but my C drive says it has gained only about 5gb. Whats the deal?? I've ran my CCleaner, and emptied the recycle bin.
I'm pretty disappointed.

FWIW, I am running XP Media center edition. The HDD was down to 10Gb, and now says it has 15Gb. I added over 20gb to the external, and deleted about half of that from my PC.

Anybody?

i assume you emptied recycle bin. go into it's settings and set max size to 512 or 1024. Then run disk cleanup to delete all temp files. Then lower all browser caches (especially IE) to 16MB...glen

CCleaner is good but there is a better program called Clean-up. It searches your computer for temp files and deletes them. Get it at

I'll give clean-up a try. Thanks!
