Converting saloon doors to upswinging hatchback?

If an SUV has two saloon swinging trunk doors, can you take those out and install an upward swinging style hatchback trunk door that is found on most suv's today??

I'm interested in a particular suv that has the saloon doors in the back, but want an up swinging hatchback door instead for unobstructed rearview vision......i don't like the middle divider in the window area as that obstructs the rearview mirror vision.

Is this possible or not??
Would the dealership do this kind of work? Or will i have to go somewhere else?

Anything is possible if you got the cash to make it so. You need to go to a custom body shop.

Dealership won't do this I'm sure. This is custom work.

Is it worth the money?

Be cautious. If your truck was designed with saloon doors then there might be a good reason, especially if its a big truck. IIRC there has been more than one soccer mom smashed in the head by a falling hatchback doors. Also, if you do the mod make sure its someone reputable.
Cheers!

For anything this custom I'd talk to Kal Koncepts. They do crazy things for people all the time.

It'll be costly and a waste of money IMO. Whomever does the work, has to cut the hinges that were built into the chassis of the vehicle and then create hinges on the edge of the roof to support the new door. The roof will also have to be reinforced to widstand the weight of the new door.

It's likely the vehicle was designed this way because it cost less...

However, it's also possible that such a big door would be too heavy to be safely supported by the roof of the vehicle. It's also likely this was done because of clearance issues (IE - with such a large vehicle you probably cannot open a hatch style rear in just about any garage without hitting a ceiling.
