Dads and ready to drive daughters...

Well, it's THAT time for me. Daughter just got her permit. And then immediately wiped my pass side mirror on my Ram against a road sign. She'll need a car in 6 months of her own. Looking at something like this:

http://harrisburg.craigslist.org/car/489865180.html

Anyone else gone through, going through this trial some nail biting time?

What's your budget Darin? I'd get her a civic IMO. They are reliable cars and their safety ratings are good.

Under $1000. preferred $500, since she's paying for it, and has virtually no money. She's now working with me a few days a week for $5/hr.

It's cash, so if ya do the math, it's really like $32.35 before taxes!

Yeah, I don't know if I'd want my daughter in a 500 dollar car. I'm about 4 years away from this myself, I guess I should start thinking about it... damn!
Maybe an old Camry Wagon? Or give her your car and buy yourself a new one?

Re: Dads and ready to drive daughters...

ouch, that sucks for your ram...

if she is that bad (no offense) then maybe get her a safer car.

My nieghbor has a 24 year old volvo, and it seems pretty good. Still really nice, built like a tank.

Or get a big truck, so she can learn on a difficult car, so anything else will be easier.

Think Safety.

I Agreed to match her savings. She'll have to pay for ins. and gas after that.

Re: Dads and ready to drive daughters...

I haven't gone through this yet, but am getting ready to. My daughter's 15 and will be getting her permit Spring next year. I'm not too worried about it though, she's very mature for her age plus she's had plenty of practice already (not on the highway though.)

Good luck to you.
