Favorite solo?

Id never say alex lifeson has the chops of EVH or Vai or those guys... but damnit that dude writes some killer solos. For some reason this EXACT one just gives me chills every time. not so much the album version, but this one in particular. makes my hair stand up!

Re: Favorite solo?

I'm a bit of a Dimebag fan, as you might have guessed.
Dime's solos from Floods and 10s are great, as are Cemetery Gates and The Sleep.
EVH's solo in a live version of summer nights I saw on youtube is pretty great too.

Re: Favorite solo?

I have no single favorite, there are just TOO MANY!

However, Scar Symmetry's 'Ghost Prototype 1 - Measurement of Thought' is right up there.
Every time i hear it i smile from ear to ear,Per Nilson's technique is phenomenal.

Re: Favorite solo?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, "In My Dreams".

Lynch just nails every single aspect of it. It's a textbook example of what a solo should be: soulful, engaging, taking the song and elevating it but never derailing it. I've listened to a lot of stuff and I'm a bigger fan of a lot of players other than George but this one is probably my favorite. Just perfect.

Re: Favorite solo?

It's hard for me to pick a favorite, but this is one I've been fascinated with for a long time. It's got some pretty neat tricks, and probably one of the fastest runs I've ever heard, and was done back in 1990.

Re: Favorite solo?

Absolute favourite solo to listen to of all time?

It is close between Something by George Harrison, Wanted Dead or Alive by Sambora, Dark Age by Phil Hutchins of Fashionable Living Death (no, you haven't heard of them) and Goodbye to Romance by the Double R.

Goodbye to Romance has to edge it.

Re: Favorite solo?

I would have to go with Europe's Superstitious. Kee Marcello had great tone and great melody in his solos.
