Finally got a job

Been off work for what seems to be forever! Let go June of this year and have been looking for a job easily a year before that. Now it's so much worse with the economy and we've really been scraping pennies. This is a contract to hire position in the city again...downtown. I just can't seem to get away from the 3.5 hour daily commute! But you know what...so be it...it's been a terrible ride and this co. is really great from what I hear, with really nice people. Luckily the pay is close to what I was making, which wasn't a lot, but I can pay the bills. It's still in IT, even though I want to get out of that field eventually. So, hopefully they will hire me on soon and keep me for a long time. In the meantime I am going to sock away as much as I can, pay off some bills, and get all the ducks in a row, so to speak. I'm working on getting the recording studio up and running, along with photo and HD video. The recording studio is still in the works, but with a slight delay due to lack of money. I'm so happy and looking forward to starting. With that said, I gotta hit the sack...5am comes around really fast. I haven't been on here that much due to playing Mr. Mom daily to our son Luke and surfing for a job. I have been too depressed to do much else. Hope you are all well.
Steve

Re: Finally got a job

Steve,

I'm sure I and many others will be really glad to hear that, I remember when you lost your job and the current climate is making all of us uncomfortable in one way or another.

My girlfriend works in the council here and they were moved onto a 'single status' pay structure 6 months ago. This resulted in a temporary reduction in her wages, but she was told they would undergo a regrading process and could expect a substantial pay rise, back dated, once it was complete.

'Single status' is meant to equalise pay between women and men. She just found out yesterday that in fact the grading was done over 4 months ago, they achieved a lower grading than expected, and they've only now been told that in fact, the pay reduction will be permanent. Given the time thats elapsed they have no recourse as they all blindly accepted the single status pay scheme. Not only that, they all took on more workload on the basis that this would be part of the grading.

She's budgeted for what they told her, and we moved into a flat together. We can still afford it but I'm paying the bulk and she feels like sh*t and has no money of her own.

They are giving her the chance to appeal but that will not go through til June 2009 and if her & her colleagues win, they will backdate the pay. Sound familiar?

Seems like they are just giving them a diversion yet again.

So Congratulations man. At least we don't have to slay mammoths to get by these days!

Congrats Steve. At the moment we take what we can get - good luck with getting the studio up and running.

You should have spent some of your spare time going round bugging the hell out of Cid. That would have cheered you up a bit!
