Guitars and regional airlines and gigbags.

I can't shell out 200 bucks for a case out another ticket for the guitar. Is there enough storage (like a closet) on a regional jet for a guitar. Or, if it has to be gate-checked, can it go on top of the cargo area and not get hurt. Never flown before.

Delta airlines regional connection. Probably a CRJ or ERJ.

Re: Guitars and regional airlines and gigbags.

Hi fwd0120,

If your guitar is in a soft-case / gig-bag then it's highly likely it will fit in the overhead bins, even on a regional jet. You might not be so lucky if it's in a hard shell case. American airline companies must let you on the plane with an instrument if they can and let's face it there would have to be someone in every single seat and then some for them not to let you on with it.

I did have to put my guitar in a soft case under a plane once and it survived. I did ask the guy to make sure it went in last and he said he would. HOWEVER! At the other end of the journey your guitar will be the first thing off and in the worst case scenario be at the bottom of a pile of 'cabin baggage'. Not all checked cabin baggage comes back up to the door of the plane to be picked up.

On a positive note I have always had no problem taking a guitar onto a regional Delta flight.

Also, this thread might be useful to you.
