Angry Hard Drive just went!

My hard drive on my laptop just went last night. Pissed me off! I didn't loose much since I only use it for my I-pod and surfing. I lost about 7 days of music which comes down to about 1800 songs. Anyway, I'll just transfer them back from the i-pod once I set the new drive up. It comes down to a wasted day of set up and re-installing programs.

Funny, what bothers me the most is, although I have 1800+ songs on my I-pod I want to listen to a few new cd purchased that I didn't up-load yet. Back to the cd player for today.

Re: Hard Drive just went!

I know how you feel :S

It sucks when something like that happens!

BUT!! If it was a software error, and not a hardware one, you may be able to get the stuff back! I had my 300GB drive corrupted after a failed overclocking attempt, and i used some software called "File Scavenger" to get almost everything back!

Unless of course youve already formatted it again in which case chances are it wont work

Re: Hard Drive just went!

It's burnt and blown up. No movement, no retrieval, just gone. There's something loose inside so I'm not wasting my time refurbing it when a new one with higher storage and speed is only around $80.

Same thing happened to me. My computer crashed, pulled the hard drive out shook it and heard a moving part, spoke with Dell = it was crap and gone. Got a new one from the warranty, but I instead upgraded to a better one from evilbait!

Only thing that sucks is redownloading everything I like on the computer. In a way, it was nice to restart fresh! Hope it works out for ya.

Platter brake failure possibly hard to tell sometimes. Hard drives need to be maintained and babied unfortunately.

I guess this is why the guys at all those computer forums remind me to back up all my material.
Sorry to hear your luck, hope you're back up and running soon!

Re: Hard Drive just went!

Unlucky! I guess you didn't lose anything too important though.

My 250gb drive decided to attempt suicide a year ago, got up one day, turned on the PC, and XP told me that I had a drive that was in RAW format. That really peaced me off, because it refused to acknowledge it's existance after that until I formatted it. Now my 250GB drive is only 186GB, for some infernal strange reason. I tried reinstalling the drivers and re-formatting (after I'd come to terms with the losses of data) and still only 186.

Gah, so much for Western Digital being invincible.
