Hard Drives

Why is it that my BIOS detects and recognises my primary master and slave (both hard drives) and secondary master (CD-RW) and secondary slave (hard drive), but windows does not show the new secondary slave hard drive?

Windows shows and runs both primarys and the secondary master cd with no problems. Just won't show my secondary slave, hard drive.

Got me thinking that one has.

Re: Hard Drives

You need to go to admin tools (in control panel) then go to 'computer management' and then click on 'disk management' and it'll show that you need to activate the secondary slave.

Hope that helps

Re: Hard Drives

Did you set the jumpers on the hard drive to slave...?

And once you have done that, you'll need to format the hard drive so windows can use it.

Re: Hard Drives

Jumpers are done, like I said, the bios sees it just fine.

Re: Hard Drives

On another note, I'm looking at the SATA 300 drives and I want a removable caddy too, but the caddies are all listed as SATA 150. Is there any difference in the cables, connections and stuff? I can't seem to find a SATA 300 caddy. Thanks.

Re: Hard Drives

Wonderful, that's another guy who gets a beer And happy birthday too Glen.

I knew it didn't sound right when a guy in the shop said it wouldn't work, I thought hmm, it's just 7 pin cables and plugs.

Re: Hard Drives

I'm having such fun waiting for my SATA drives to format. Whilst they are going, does anyone know why windows formats 250Gb drives at 232.88Gb?

I've noticed windows always formats drives showing their capacity as something a touch smaller, but never knew why.
