Has JEMSITE sold my email address

I joined the forum yesterday, and today my inbox is full of people wanting to offer me financial advice etc, who seem to know my name. I almost never receive spam (well it gets filtered) and have signed up to no other sites in recent times. If this is the practice here I am very dissapointed.

Has this happened to anyone else?

You'd be the only guy, lol.

In a word... no. If that was the case then everybody would have the same problem.

If I were you I would scan your PC for Spyware, adware etc. I can not imagine Jemsite selling email addresses.

Re: Has JEMSITE sold my email address

sorry, email is 100% private in jemsite.

you obviously have posted your email addy somewhere else, including commercial sites. This is specifically the reason you are not to post emails in classified ads also... glen

There are very few sites on the web have my email address, and I have not signed up (registered my email) with anyone new for well over a year, possibly two. Which is why I rarely get spam. They know my first name, so I doubt it's an automated spam-bot guessign addresses, and my spyware, anti-virus and firewall are updated daily.

It just seemed a bit of a coincidence. It may be that a company I registered with years ago, has just flogged a list.

Re: Has JEMSITE sold my email address

If you've bought or inquired about anything off the internet that required your e-mail address recently..... there's a good chance it's gotten out that way. There are just so many ways it could have been sold as part of a list it's unbelievable.

This is true. Thats why I use a separate Yahoo email addy just for these type of situations. My main e-mail for only family and friends.

Re: Has JEMSITE sold my email address

coincidence or not the fact is i have never done even a mass-mail from vB nor published, sold, redistributed a single email from day-1

you're on yahoo which means you missed a setting and didn't opt out of the "send my info to partners".

maybe email arriving in the account triggered it.

yahoo has terrible anti-spam features, and the reason is why is because they're responsible for alot of it ...glen

Re: Has JEMSITE sold my email address

BTW gmail & yahoo support plus-addressing.

getting more of a clue, and making less accusations is my recommended course of action

Re: Has JEMSITE sold my email address

I have made no accusations, I was asking a question, as a result of what appears to be an unfortunate coincidence.
I fully believe what you've said, and I hesitated about the initial post, but I needed to know.

I am pretty savvy about giving out my email address, which is why I rarely get spam.

Cheers,

Nick

Easy Glen!

That being said, I've never received anything on my email address that could have come from this site...As one of the "elderly statesmen" (My join date is 2000, I think), I can assure you Jemsite had nothing to do with your spam issue.

Re: Has JEMSITE sold my email address

I'm with Kenny. I've been here for about 7 years, and have never ever received anything from a possible leak. I don't know Glen personally, but from years here I can assure you he wouldn't do such a thing.

Well, I have developed an obsessive need to buy Ibanez guitars, so the way I figure it, Glen owes me several thousand dollars!

Re: Has JEMSITE sold my email address

I've been wondering this for a while (off topic) our join date wasn't Dec 2000 right? Wasnt that when they switched servers or something? Wish I could remember my join date... pretty sure it was a bit before that date. I kinda thought everyone except like glen that were around that time were all of a sudden all on the same join date. Like I think it shows Rich as that date, and I know he was wayyy before me

anyway
