But yeah...sometimes a break is the best thing. Playing guitar (and any artistic endeavor) is like anything else...take a break for a few days...a week...six months...whatever. When the time comes, you'll be drawn back to your favorite axe, and voila...you'll feel and sound better than you have in a long time.

The other thing you could try is to go see some live music and/or hang out with other musicians. Try something that perhaps is outside of your comfort range of what you usually like. Either you'll hate that something else so much you'll come back to enjoy what you like, or that new something will inspire you to add a little kick of it to your playing.

Or maybe pick up another instrument for a little while. Listen to some new types of music. See if you can detect subtle nuances in the recording.

Of course you may just not be a guitar player anymore. I mean, there are plenty of things in life you just outgrow. I used to spend hours with my Transformers when I was a kid. Now I don't. Many people play an instrument all through growing up, and High School only to ditch it when they get older. It happens.

Re: Helpp, why don't i wanna play my guitar anymore?

ill never outgrow playin guitar thats for sure. i use guitar more to let out emotion and to speak in a more universal language, to tell myself in a different way how i feel about something. i do have an acoustic, but im not drawn much to it either.. once when i first started playin i took a break for 3 months and then started up again completely amazing compared to what i was before, i miss my guitar, but i don't wanna play lately.. i guess ill set it down.. id like to get a new amp, i know that'll get my blood boilin again, i have a s***y amp right now lol, with no cord.. but thanks for all the advice guys! i appreciate it!

Is your practice space neat and tidy? I find that makes a big difference for me.

Have you tried alternate tunings? Some times just playing in drop D will spark a new interest for me, (Drop low E string down to D) however there are countless combinations of tunings and I find that it opens new musical possibilities and forces you to play new sounds which helps to counteract the boredom which can occur from hearing the same sounds over and over. Bottom line for me, is to have fun and enjoy the instrument. If my heart isn't in it, then I might as well get up and go to work.

Re: Helpp, why don't i wanna play my guitar anymore?

Try Devin Townsend's tuning, C G C G C E. It's especially fun for playing the same 3-note pattern on each string, say, 4th, 5th and 7th frets.

I also like playing in weird tunings I make up, like:

C G D F# B D

In that one, I use the C string to play bass notes up and down the neck, not necessarily as a drone.

Re: Helpp, why don't i wanna play my guitar anymore?

Oh and if you really need something to kickstart your playing, try to learn Mike Keneally's "I Can't Stop." Then listen closer and realise how many open strings he's playing amongst all the stuff on higher frets, and learn it the RIGHT way.

If you think you've got that down, move on to "1988 Was A Million Years Ago" and try to make it out alive.

Right about the time that I needed a breath of fresh air in terms of playing music, I picked up an acoustic 12-string. It sounded very nice and it really changed everything.

Thats kinda what I'm tryin to say. And I have done the same thing. just the difference in sound can rejuvinate your enthusiasm. also try throwin a capo on the seventh fret or so. it just chages the way the guitar resonates and inspires new ideas for me.
