Hotel California

When the album was first released (record format), there was a picture of a hotel on the album cover. In an upper window of the hotel there was a man peering out. Is this man Anton Levay?

Re: Hotel California

That's one of those weird urban legends that it's supposed to be some creepy, cloaked figure, but apparently it's actually a woman in a dress in somewhat bad lighting. There's something about it on www.snopes.com (urban legend database) I believe.

Thanx. I figured it was something like that.

Re: Hotel California

I have to admit that I'm secretly bummed out when some of the old rock-and-roll urban legends turn out to be bunk. All the fuzzy photographs, images hidden in LP sleeves, masked messages, etc. all created a kind of mystique that in the age of the internet, high-res photography and sound recording we'll never have again.

There are still a bunch of really weird stuff from the bygone era of rock and roll that is somewhat true (at least in creepily bizarre conincidences and stuff). I just read the book, "Take a Walk on the Dark Side: Rock and Roll Myths, Legends, and Curses" by R. Gary Patterson that freaked me out. The chapters on the Allman Brothers, Stones, and Zeppelin are alone worth checking it out.

Re: Hotel California

Anyone ever heard that the guy from Lynard Skynard is buried in a Neil Young t-shirt?

Re: Hotel California

Haven't heard that one, but I did hear that Skynard and Neil Young were talking about playing a show together (they were mutual fans of each other, and that dig in Sweet Home Alabama was more playful than it sounded I guess) before the plane crash.

Thanks for clarifying that, as I would have thought perhaps these talks went down after the crash.

I have this book, its pretty damn cool.

I remember reading in an old Guitar School or something, Skynyrd was talking about the Neil Young line in Sweet Home Alabama. I dont think it was really an jab at Neil, but in the article they mentioned that they were big fans of Neil, and were really bummed about what he said.
