How do YOU define a valued Jemsite member?

The question is just that simple. As a new member, an old Fogey, or somewhere in between, what qualities in a Jemsite member do you find valuable. Whether it be good advice, humor, experience with Ibanez equipment or the company itself, good use of the rules, or whatever comes to mind.... please explain in as much detail as possible why you might value some members more than others. If you want to compliment someone for the type of member that they are PLEASE DO SO!!

EDIT: in re-reading this, it really seems that I'm fishing for compliments for myself....... Sorry, that is NOT what I want. If you think I'm an Ass.... then post away!!! otherwise I'm just trying to find out what you think of OTHER members and why you do or don't appreciate them.

Hey, I have one of those too!

For the most part, though, I appreciate intelligence. This is followed closely by humor, helpfulness and NOT being annoying. What constitutes annoying? I don't know... an average somewhere around 23 posts per day?

Re: How do YOU define a valued Jemsite member?

Good=helpful and contributes
Bad=just replies with nonsense with no relevance to thread
Good=sense of humor and can poke, and take "good natured" ribbings.
Bad=no sense of humor and likes to just flame members.
Good=shares experiences and insight
Bad=Condescending attitude towards noobs or others with questions that may seem common.
Good=at least attempts some research before asking.
Bad=folks that expect to be spoon fed, and complain when someone suggests the search function or Google. And the others that jump on the bandwagon with them.
Good=acts in a mature manner regardless of topic
Bad=People that stir the pot just to get a rise.

Re: How do YOU define a valued Jemsite member?

A valued member has to have accurate knowledge that they are willing to share in a matter of fact but non-patronising way. On top of that, they have to stick to the rules, not showboat and not try to moderate the site themselves. There are moderators for that last point, let them do the job they're supposed to do.

The worst members are those who have little experience and/or knowledge but don't have the maturity to realise it! They spread misinformation and then companin when others show them to be incorrect. It's even worse if they come in with something to prove and fail terribly!

Re: How do YOU define a valued Jemsite member?

When I first joined Jemsite I found most members friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and that cultivated good discussions and interesting reading... then everything seemed to go to hell sometime in 2009 with new members flying off the handle and attacking threads/posts/members at every opportunity.

That's something that really seems to have become prevalent here over the last year or so and it kinda bums me out.
