How do you pronounce Ibanez?

Don't flame me too bad. I'm not mentally challenged. Just without confidence.

Is it Ibanez as in eye-banez
Or Ibanez as in Ib-anez
Perhaps even Ibanez, as in E-banez (I don't think it's e-banez.)

I only ask because I have never heard the word in conversation. Only people on youtube and stuff. They're are from America though, and I am asking as an English-man.

Or do we have a 'To-mate-o - To-mart-o' situation???

Re: How do you pronounce Ibanez?

Well, when that all important moment comes when I walk into my local music store to buy my new... uh, erm... eye-buh-nez? I will uttur it quietly, wait until he repeats it and then temporarily adopt his pronunciation of the word.

Easiest way as far as I can see it!

Re: How do you pronounce Ibanez?

The right one is Ebanez cause Ibanez is not an english word so I sounds like E.
But countries that speak english generally pronounce letters the way they do in their own languages and that's a wrong thing to do.You have to pronounce a word the way it's in its language and not make it sounds like if it was a word of your language.
There are people in my country who don't speak english so everytime they see an english word they pronounce it using our language sounds.
Think about how many languages exist and imagine people pronouncing Ibanez the way they do in their own languages, there'd be hundred different ways of pronouncing Ibanez lol
That's wrong.
The right way(Ebanez) is the way the owner pronounces it

Re: How do you pronounce Ibanez?

Ibanez was originally a Spanish luthier who was bought out by Hoshino-Gakki years and years ago. The original pronunciation was the Spanish one: EE-Ban-Yez, but changed to Eye-Ban-Ez when the Japanese company started runing things. You can find this info on the Internet and the previous thread on this topic that Dave pointed out.

So that's what I said,it's Ebanez cause it's a spanish word,it doesn't matter who bought it cause it's still a spanish word.
If a brazilian company bought Kramer people won't start calling it by Kreimer,if a japanese company bought Ferrari they wouln't call it by.....Firraro san?! hahahahahaha
People started to call it by eye banez because world famous guitarists like Vai and Satch who have english as their first language made clips pronouncing ibanez like if it was an english word.
People have to pronounce words the way they're in their own languages.

Like in Germany and Austria--a W makes a V sound. We used to stay at the Hotel Walkner in Salzburg, but it's pronounced Valkner.
