Post I want to get a laptop...

Hey!

I'm hoping to get a laptop for Christmas this year and although I have some computing knowledge I'm no expert.

I've done some research on some laptops (price range 400-450) and found this:

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/sto...ory_oid=-27751

I've read some reviews and it sounds as if it'll do the job well (school work, browsing, email, maybe possible gaming etc, nothing hardcore) but i'm just looking for a second opinion and maybe some recommendations.

Thanks

Reece

PC world, believe it or not, do sell great computers.

That laptop would do everything pretty well. Games it might struggle with since it has shared graphics card and a sluggash 1.8ghz processor.

That said my PC is pretty much identical to that apart from my graphics card and I can run BF2 full spec on the highest resolution with no lag at all.

Yeah, a few of my computer friends constantly slag them off, so I wasn't sure if it was any good.

Yeah, gaming isn't too much of a need. More of a 'bonus'.

Re: I want to get a laptop...

From the stories I've heard from a few of my mates who work in there people seem to have the attutuide that a £299 complete package PC will be able to pull off all the lastest games in full spec mode. Thats why everyone hates PC world, because they dont realise that you need to spend a good amount of cash to get a PC that will play games. Unlike consoles, well... kinda but you know what I mean.

Re: I want to get a laptop...

That'll do the job on most things

If you can do it, save a little extra cash and get a Macbook - I bought my wife one in the summer - it's fantastic

It'll do everything. It will play games too, just not brand new ones on full spec.

Re: I want to get a laptop...

The main game I want to play is CS:Source.....

I bought it because my PC met the 'requirements' only to find It was virtually unplayable lol

Re: I want to get a laptop...

This is about the best thing you can get within your price range. The Acer Aspire 5633WLMi:

There is also another Acer model available from the same store which has a 17" screen and better graphics (nVidia Go 7300 TurboCache -- should run CS: Source fine) for an extra £50, but it has a Turion dual core processor and those can sometimes run slightly hot.

Still, for under £500 I haven't found anything better than these and I've been looking for a laptop for my girlfriend for quite a while, doing lots of homework on what to buy, etc.

The Acer models seem to have the best spec to price ratio and the 5633WLMi was voted best value laptop by What Laptop.
