Re: Ibanez Guitar Development Center. HUH?

I thought Ibanez had pretty much always been open to making any* guitar you care to order, as long as you order 6 or 12 or 18 depending on the model you wanted. I'm sure there was a discussion about it here a few years ago.
Didn't know there was a website though.

Rich will know more.

*as long as it is based on a model they have/have had in the past

IGDC is the Nagoya prototyping shop. They have capacity to do small runs when not just doing prototype work.

Re: Ibanez Guitar Development Center. HUH?

Rich, can you elaborate on the "small runs" comment.
Is that open to anyone or just dealers and are they open to reissues?
Say, if I had money to burn and wanted to order several PGM500, how many do I have to order to get them to make them? Is that at all possible?

I seem to remember a thread about people asking for reissuing of the BFP and not sure if this is right but seem to remember you saying that as long as you order 25 they will make them.

This was years before Ibanez re-issued a version of the BFP.

Re: Ibanez Guitar Development Center. HUH?

Years ago Fujigen made a trip to Chesbro and said they would build whatever they ordered, signature model or not. At the time they were taking orders on FP's, so who knows how true that statement is. Ibanez is the one that says yes or no, and with signature models the artists has the final say.

Otherwise, today, if it's signature model, if the artists doesn't bless it it's not happening.

Bottom line is if someone is really interested in ordering something unique and has the $$$ to afford however many guitars the minimum run is - you'd be able to find out for sure what's possible and what isn't.

I must admit (not sure why) I always thought it was possible as long as the customer is prepared to order 6/12/18/25 guitars.

Ok, at least none of the nasty vine inlays on this one.

Hi Rich,
So this IGDC is still part of Fujigen? Or Hoshino's independent shop?

It's nice to have options... but again, it's quiet confusing on the labeling Ibanez did.
so what we have is like :
J custom, devided by two : a very high-end one, and normal one..
Prestige
Uppercut
genesis / re-issue
Iron label
premium
standard
gio
dammit! ( it's not part of the line tho)....

Re: Ibanez Guitar Development Center. HUH?

It has nothing to do with Fujigen, it's in Nagoya, where Hoshino is

I've known about it for several years but have never really asked about it. I'll poke around when I see the right guys.

The proportions don't look as thought out and overall pleasant as Fujigen high-end stuff though.

Re: Ibanez Guitar Development Center. HUH?

Sorry, anything that even hints at an Ibanez "custom shop" (even if only semi-custom) gets me excited. At some point, I need to just give up on this silly dream, heh.

Re: Ibanez Guitar Development Center. HUH?

As a guitar I really like the look of that. I don't really see any difference in the forearm contour, but the neck joint looks even more comfortable, but I'd worry about taking even more wood away from that area. Would it be more prone to neck joint cracks? Would those cracks have a more significant effect?

Understand the fascination of this kind of songs reflection for the instrument. And there is a change between traditional and flamenco instrument style of enjoying as well, but comparative to the background songs they are designed to show. But saying, 'Spanish' is really saying 'modern' instrument in the ancient feeling that contains most all instruments made nowadays.
