IE 8 and Small Font Size In Forum

Damn IE8, I've never had so much screwy crap before to sort out.

To see the font size on these pages I need to "Zoom" to 125%. When I do that, I get slide bar at the bottom because af the fixed banner sizes. The "View > Text Size" works for everything, except the font size on these pages, which seems to be fixed.

Anybody know why, how to change, anything to blow up the font so I can reduce back to 100% and get rid of the slide bar.

BTW, does anybody else hate the new e-bay layout? I knew it was coming. They were using it on UK auctions for the last month or so. You have to be at 1280 resolution to not get the slide bar ;////

Re: IE 8 and Small Font Size In Forum

I thought IE8 was supposed to be Microsoft's answer to Firefox and Opera, sounds like they're not quite there yet. You can put these issues to rest by switching to Firefox, can't recommend it enough

And yes, new e-bay layout was a bad idea... no surprise though, each year they find something to screw with.

e-bay, I agree, nasty.

For your IE8 issues, I hadn't noticed the fixed font size before but I get that too. Having said that the font is a sensible size for me. Do you run your monitor at some extreme resolution?

No, 1152. But I sit 6' away from it. I don't sit in front of a monitor 18 hours a day, but I can see it 18 hours a day in my periphial [that's how come I can reply so fast ]

1440x900 for me and the font is the same size as it was in previous IEs.
You must be doing something that is causing you to go blind ...........

Re: IE 8 and Small Font Size In Forum

Maybe it's not the font as much as the banners used to fit in my window without the need for a slide bar at 125%. Now, slide bar, and the banners look MUCH BIGGER!

Maybe something with autoscalling that is affecting the banner size?

Bottom line, I didn't have the slide bar before, now, I do. Only change, IE8 now.

Do you ever speak English?!

If the tri was a binocular I'd be all set.

What am I looking for in Accessibility to correct this?

Re: IE 8 and Small Font Size In Forum

Rich, you might want to try IE8's compatibility mode, and switch to IE7 compatibility since you did not face this issue earlier. I did some reading and found that IE8 breaks a lot of websites, but the compatibility mode has worked well.

I don't have IE8 to give you precise instructions but you might want to look for it under some menu.

EDIT: Here's a link that explains how to run in compatibility mode - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/int...es/easier.aspx

Re: IE 8 and Small Font Size In Forum

I tried that earlier, makes no change to any sites [don't ask me why, I'm not sure what it was supposed to do to begin with].

Re: IE 8 and Small Font Size In Forum

try them all ...i'm not seeing your problem (but of course using 1024x768 doesn't work anymore for the web anyomore). 1280x800 or higher is your friend

if sites force pages (images) wider than your 1280x800 screen resolution that is not an IE issue it's a bad web design issue.

i'm afraid to ask what size/resolution monitor you're using :-o ...glen

Re: IE 8 and Small Font Size In Forum

It's a 19" flat panel. What do I have to do, buy a 27" just so I can read in 1280?!

Re: IE 8 and Small Font Size In Forum

typical LCD native resolution (what you want to be using)...

19" 4x3 (not-widescreen) would be 1280x1024.. no prob.
19" widescreen would be at least 1280x800 native resolution (possibly 1440x900 or 1680x1050)

set it properly in windows... control panel... display ...glen
