im off the smokes :)

evening lads.its the 5th of january,5 days since i quit smoking.ive been a smoker since i was 13 now 39.over the last 6 months ive been having these strange dizzy spells especially when i do anything too fast ie run up the stairs or stand up too quick.these dizzy bouts were nearly making me pass out (very scarry).im using those smokers patches, ive tried everything under the sun over the years but only these patches work.ive packed up before about 5years ago for 18 months using these patches but i put 5 stone on in weight so i started smoking again, but this time around im going to eat healthy instead of eating crap.i really recomend these patches if anyone wants to give up,if i can do it ANYONE can.

i quit a couple of years ago as well, and put on weight too. you can exercise a little to slim down, but the alternative is smoking. nothing you can do to get new lungs short of a transplant...

way to go and i hope you can stick with it. its tough, but it can be done.

Re: im off the smokes :)

keep it up mate, I remember giving up clear as day, not trying to outdo ya mate but I started smoking at 8 and stopped when I was 30(ish)
school lunch money never went on lunch -

anyway, I was still playing rugby when I quit and about a month after I stopped I felt I had about 4 times the lung capacity and just wanted to run, run, run....

I would never ever go back on em now, I can taste food, smell, I dont smell horrible and my wife will come near me now..

I found the 3 week barrier is real, if you get past 3 weeks then you can do it, whatever you do DONT drink, DONT think you can have a quick puff and leave it at that cos youre kidding yourself..

nice one mate ! keep it up.

Re: im off the smokes :)

good luck- I've also quit and it isn't fun. I used little DumDum lollipops when I was driving and stuff to replace the smokes. Not too many calories and gave me something to do.

Re: im off the smokes :)

Just carry a guitar around with you in case you get bored . . . or alternatively chew some gum.

Congrats on the decision - I hear your lungs can recover to almost the equivalent of a non-smoker in a few years - the human body is a wonderful thing.

Re: im off the smokes :)

i haven't smoked in 1 year 10 months exactly. it's good to have a date, it REALLY helps. especially if the date is significant, like I can see for you, it was new years, for me it's the day after my birthday. keep it up! i think the hardest time is after you've kicked it, when you think you could have JUST ONE. NO!

Re: im off the smokes :)

i'm with them. dont think that you can just have a quick smoke and still be fine. i used the little cinnamon candies. they were kinda hot and unpleasant. kinda like cigarettes. ha ha. all the effects of smokin but no smell or ashes.

Re: im off the smokes :)

nice one lads.yes ive been chewing gum and it does help.im not going to have any sly puffs thats just kidding yourself, once you have a few puffs youve undone all the hard work,so i aint going to do that.people say why dont you just cut down, cant do than either, its either smoke 25-30 a day or quit full time theres no inbetween with me.

Re: im off the smokes :)

Good luck! I'm starting the patches today.I didnt start until I was 21,what kind of idiot was I?
I gave up for three years once on will power, but then a bad patch in my life got me started again.
I've tried patches before and they have worked when I've been wearing them,it's just sometimes I havnt felt like wearing them and then I've started smoking again.
The hardest thing for me is not smoking at work. It's a stressful job and having a smoke there is quite easy. There again I must remember that the job is nowhere near as stressful and cancer!
