Knockin' Down a Legend

Detroit's Historic Tiger Stadium, once called Briggs Stadium at the corner of Michigan Ave & Trumbull is being torn down.

After many, many years of alternate proposals, court orders from preservation groups blocking its destruction, and the huge contributing factor that the new Comerica Park has better sightlines, more comfortable seating, better restrooms, and is easier to navigate, Tiger Stadium is going...going...gone.

Or as former Tiger announcer Ernie Harwell would say: "It's Long Gone!"

Go down there and rip up some seats if you can. That's what they did
in Cleveland once they knocked down Municipal Stadium where the Browns
and Indians played. They could be worth something someday!!
Is that where Ty Cobb played? I have a signed ball by him that I received
once my dad passed away 8 years ago. Dimaggio's signature is also on the
ball.

Well, they're doing the same with Yankee Stadium soon, but I'm not entirely sure of the " better sightlines, more comfortable seating, better restrooms" bit.

How is the new stadium?

It's all fenced off. Most of the "artifacts" have either been removed or stolen over the years the place has gone fallow.

Like I posted, Comerica is very close to the action, access to the dugouts, and views from home-plate to the outfield are very good. I recall the urinal "trough" in the men's room at the old Stadium. I also remember the steel girders that blocked many views of many fans and gave rise to metro-Detroit's Chiropractic industry.

Comerica is a HUGE improvement, but like many, I still dig the artifacts & nostalgia stuff of the old structures. I disliked watching games there however.
