LED vs LCD monitors

It's time for a new monitor. A 24" LCD or LED. Any opinions on which is better? I will be using the monitor for photo editing, internet, movies, etc. No gaming.

Re: LED vs LCD monitors

ummm LED hands down, much brighter and much better blacks etc... thinner design and lighter in weight... its a better technology...

it may be more expensive but down the track it will have been worth it

Re: LED vs LCD monitors

Lately some LEDs are on sale for less $$'s than the equivalent LCD monitor. This is what had me wondering.
Maybe these LED's are just old stock about to be replaced with some new model?

LEDs are better picture, thinner design, and use less juice. Definitely worth it.

They generate much better whites. LCD's work by taking colours away from white, the more pure the white the more pure the colours. LED's and MUCH whiter than standard backlit. The only difference between them is the backlight, it's brighter, more energy efficient and more true to colour.

They're pretty much the same price now for computer monitors now, maybe a little more expensive, it would be silly to go with LCD over LED.

Toodles!

Re: LED vs LCD monitors

check the color gamut first.

generally speaking i'm still going with this...

LED for laptop (less energy).
LCD for desktop where you're doing photos

It's not a matter of what's better, it's a matter of what's better FOR THE ARTIST. Just because someone says one is better doesn't mean it's better for everyone. Lot's of artists are making great art with a Apple IIE monochrome monitor. Who are you guys to say what's better?

Sorry about that.

That was a little beat angry but.....................awesome!

You guys never saw this phrase here thousand times ? =

There's no better or worse, you buy what you need/want.
Yep you should take in consideration things like durability, energy efficiency, quality of color, prices etc but still the best one is the one YOU need/want.

The OP was asking about a color monitor, so when we say best we mean best out of LCD and LED not MONOCHROME rubbish... which I own by the way and it makes a great door stop... art ? maybe, waste of space ? definitly

Re: LED vs LCD monitors

Glen, why would you choose LCD over LED for a desktop?

Re: LED vs LCD monitors

LED monitors are still LCD--they are just backlit by LEDs. They use less energy, are thinner, and do have better color. I'd go LED.

Re: LED vs LCD monitors

R... for desktop i have no battery life concerns. The best monitors with most colors that are matte finish are mostly (almost exclusively) LCD w/o LED backlight. i haven't seen too many LED monitors in person or on paper that outspec the U2410 for example, nevermind it's baby brother. I'm using the previous model and it does 128% colors, white is white, black is black, etc.

Now for laptops, movies or other stuff unrelated to photos then i wouldn't rule out an LED but it gets a lot of hype because it's taking over notebooks due to battery saving.

I guess ultimately i'd choose screen finish (matte) and color gamut and panel type over "LED". I wouldn't rule out an LED but i haven't found one i'd want at this time for my desktop ... glen
