lightsaber rotoscoping

i didn't want to post this until it was done but....oh well...i couldn't wait. it's not done yet, still needs work, there is no audio. i have to start on the foley FX and music after the rotoscoping is done. this is just something we wanted to do....shot about 10 mins. of footage and wound up with 1.5 minutes. took me about 2 weeks to rotoscope these sabers...pain in the ........ anyway, it was shot in HD and looks SOOOO much better when not scaled down for the web but you get the idea. enjoy and have a safe and happy new year! hope to have the final done soon......
i do not appear in this. i was shooting / directing

Re: lightsaber rotoscoping

That was pretty cool. The Batman looking guy made me laugh! The camera angles were awesome, and the lightsabers look great!!
The only thing that I wondered was the shot where Vader uses "The Force" to pull the gun in his hand didn't look very smooth, looked like someone throwing the gun to him. Wonder if there is a different way to do this, or if this was just an intentional quick shot.

Re: lightsaber rotoscoping

Distant, thanks. yeah, that child's batman mask was hilarious and that's why I had Brian wear it. He's always up for the stupid warped stuff. As I told him right before the shoot... "this will make you look like an idiot....put it on." he didn't hesitate. haha. i am thinking of putting a squeak toy sound effect in for whenever he takes a step. you are right, someone threw him the gun and it looks stupid. it was absolutely freezing out when we shot it, along with 4" of mud that wasn't frozen yet in that field and after 3 attempts i said good enough for now! there are a couple things i will do as a reshoot for later because i'm just not happy with it. there are a few other things that bother me but overall it's good. no real story line...yet? just fun. i need to use my gear for me instead of just clients and that is one of the things that prompted this.
