Most underrated guitarists?

You know, putting my money where my mouth is, after the most overrated guitarist poll - who are the killer players you listen to that you don't think get the credit they're due?

I've got a couple who come to mind:

Lyle Watt - melodic, bluesy instrumentalist who still has plenty of technique on tap when he wants it.
http://youtu.be/jBULfo_m-kM

Angel Vivaldi - very technical instrumental metal - Angel has always had monsterous chops and great riffs, but his last release, "Away With Words" has him also developing a great melodic sense. He was a jemsiter for a while and even played one or two jemfests.
http://youtu.be/Snv4DlZS7K4

Neil Zaza - much like Lyle I guess but with more of a Neil Schlon feel. Great melodic player, and can rip when he wants to.
http://youtu.be/VZc0Ln9DTKQ

Marco Sfogli - First heard him on a James Labrie solo release, where he sounded like a Petrucci clone. Then for a while he was a Petrucci-meets-Timmons clone. Now he's not. Monsterous player, great tone, and great feel to his playing.
http://youtu.be/h7YIWOSBX_U

Guthrie Govan - I figure this guy SHOULD be pretty well known over here, but I'm always surprised by the number of guys who don't really know his playing. The dude's inhuman, near as I can tell, and is probably the best "full package" player I can think of who's breaking out today.

Wow! That kid is good! I dig his smooth style... but you can tell a monster lurks in there too. I'll have to watch the other videos later.

One player that comes to mind as being underrated is Alex Lifeson of Rush. I mean, every musician knows who he is, but I don't think he gets the credit he should. One of my top favorite guitar players... one of the reasons I started playing.

Re: Most underrated guitarists?

Maybe not under rated, but under appreciated definitely.

Steve Morse - I don't think guys like Petrucci and Govan really sound like they do today without Steve. Recognized (by name, anyway) by most guitarists but truly one of the first guys post-DiMeola who could flat out own in a number of different styles. Rock, country, or classical, Steve does everything superbly and is a true musician's musician.

Re: Most underrated guitarists?

Glen Campbell - of course known for his solo career but he could play guitar pretty well and was also a member of the Beach Boys

Peter Frampton - better known for his chick magnet looks back in the day but could play anything as well as more well known British guitarists

Bruce Kulick - hired hand for KISS but a real monster on guitar and plays a lot more than just reheated Ace Frehley licks

Tuck Andress - known most as half of Tuck and Patti but a real accomplished guitarist in his own right

Keith Urban - not just a solo artist girls scream at

Govan, of course who I have never heard of until you shredder folk enlightened me

Re: Most underrated guitarists?

Govan, to me is the best overall electric player on the planet. He should be more well known than he is but I kind of like that I went to see him this summer at a small club in St Paul, I was able to walk right up to the stage : )

Re: Most underrated guitarists?

I think Tony MacAlpine got lost in a sea of shredders...but definitely a great guitarist and brilliant pianist/overall musician.

I think Russ Parish is another good one for the list.
