Moving to Canada, looking for job:)

Hi guys,

Since government of Canada has supplied me with a nice and shiny job permit, i am planning to move sometime during the summer. Also getting a job would be a descent thing to do, too bad not so easy like i thought.

So if any jemsiter can help with advice or whatever... any help will be appreciated. I am an wide profile IT specialist so to say Also, accomplished song writer... but that is a whole different story

Re: Moving to Canada, looking for job:)

Out of curiosity what made you decide to move all the way to Canada?
Also are you moving to Quebec?

Just asking as the only reason I'd ever move is for a job (better economic conditions) and/or climate and considering you're from an EU country and can live and work pretty much anywhere in Europe what made you consider moving to Canada?
No job lined up and climate will be pretty much the same as it is in Riga so I'm just wondering...

I don't live in Canada
but the subject has comes up in the last several union meetings
there are jobs in the oil & gas sector, not much else.
if you can weld, you can work tomorrow.
personally; as I'm a pipe-fitter by trade and know that work would involve a great deal of "weather" related activities
I would think long and hard about it before you tried it.
money is good though

Re: Moving to Canada, looking for job:)

I live in Toronto and there are plenty of jobs (if you aren't lazy)

Of course Canada is a gigantic country so the job market will be different if you choose Quebec City over Toronto or Vancouver for example.

If you go to Alberta then the oil and gas industry is the industry to be in. I would think that Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal (in that order) offer the best opportunity for an IT career. The Greater Toronto Area (GTA) has more than 4 million residents so there is plenty going on.

Lots of bars/pubs in Toronto for a song writer to strut his stuff, but as you know, trying to make a living as a musician is extremely tough, lol.

Re: Moving to Canada, looking for job:)

Thnx for replaying everyone, its been a while since i looked at this thread

Why? Because i need a change and Canada is place i like would like to return to (i was there during WHC 2008 in Halifax). Not much of a "reasonable" reason, but sometimes that is enough

Working in a bars/pubs is something i am familiar with... the biggest gamble is to there without any idea what will i actually do. I am not that kind of adventurer... but looks like i will be soon enough.

I love being up in Quebec. If I could speak French, I'd go more often but its still really nice. I love the way the waitresses always address you in French first

Your gonna love it here, the summers are amazing and the people for the most part are very friendly you'll find (depending on where you move of course).
