Re: need anti-virus!!

Try Antivir or Avast both of them have a free version for home users. I myself use avast because it has very nice network shield plus antivirus checker for various p2p programs and so forth. Hope this helps .

Re: need anti-virus!!

go with Norton. you can get 6 months virus definitions free from google then just resubscribe for like $29.

Re: need anti-virus!!

I've been using AntiVir on all my machines...it's small and relatively unintrusive. Norton has gotten too big, IMO.

oh...it's FREE too

Norton takes up way to much CPU power compared to Antivir and Avast but the worst of them all is Sophos. That thing is completely useless.

Re: need anti-virus!!

Avast or AVG as realtime scanner
AV Personal as extra on demand scanner
Who needs to pay for bloatware?

I will have to agree, I have been using Avast on all of my home PCs for almost 2 years now, it updates almost every day, and has cought every virisu & trojens/spyware that has attacked my PC... and I do play around with warez from time to time.

Nortons has messed up my PCs in the past, its heavy program on your resources. Go with the free ones (Avast), just register and you will be set to go.. it will also run in DOS mode and clean out your memory too.

Hopefully your PC is not to far gone... that system dlls are infected, Well Good Luck!

Re: need anti-virus!!

Steer well clear of Norton. Ineffefective in too many instances in my experiences, and updates were very few and far between. Maybe once a week. I now use Trend Micro which is doing a fantastic job and i haven't had any problems since i've been using it. It also updates as and when updates become available, which generally is at least once a day and often more.

Still ,do what i did and read as much as you can about any software you wanna use, and read as many reviews as you can find on the net. It took me a while but i finally went with Trend micro, a bit expensive but weel worth it in my opinion.

Re: need anti-virus!!

Seriously Norton is really, really bad. They don't detect anything that anyone actually gets. Their updates are 3 years behind.

Go to www.grisoft.com and download the free edition of AVG. It's much better than Norton. Also Bitdefender is real good (www.bitdefender.com).... seems to be the best as far as picking up viruses but their free edition is only a scan and not a shield.
