Nervous about something I just sold on the bay...

I just listed my old laptop for sale on *bay. I was a complete idiot and forgot to click the box requiring immediate payment when you do a buy it now. Stupid stupid stupid.

Anyway, my laptop sold, of course, before I noticed that fact. The buyer, of course, didn't pay right away.

It sold this morning, so I wouldn't normally be nervous, but the buyer just joined today (member since May 13, 2007). They obviously have no feedback, no history, nothing. I'm mostly nervous it's a phony account. It seems there are more people scamming others than there are folks who just happened to buy a "big ticket" item their first day as a member and don't respond to e-mails within 8 hours.

Since I only use Paypal, I know I'm a bit more secure than if I were waiting on a check or something... but I'm still nervous. Any suggestions on how I can proceed cautiously? An outside the US shipping address would be my first red flag, but what else should I look out for? I know not to send anything until payments clear (assuming I receive one).

Maybe I'm overreacting... but like I said, there are more crooks than honest people out there these days.

just wait till he pays, then transfer the money to your bank account which takes 3-5 days. Tell him when the money hits into your bank account you will ship..

This little 3-5 period if any fraud is apparent will hopefully come out before you ship.. I know I check my bank/paypal everyday. So I would know instantly.

Then ship to a address and demand a direct signature(fedex) if the person on the box isnt there they will no let anyone else sign, it has to be the person its addressed to.

hope for the best.. I had to go thru this 2x on the bay same scenario both turned out fine, one I still talk to till this day

Normally I get cash instally from an ATM with my PayPal card. Think I should wait the transfer time just to be extra safe? I guess that does make sense your way.

Alright, now I'm more nervous. The buyer's name and a very very similar **** ID is listed multiple times in this thread. They have a rather unusual first name, so it's really sounding fishy.

EDIT - Obviously, change the "****" in the url to e-b-a-y

EDIT again - they also have their feedback set to private. I thought the only people who did that were scammers and bigtime porn shoppers.

Obviously...

The main concern about even receiving the money is how common stolen Paypal accounts are. I'm just trying to avoid hassle before I get involved in it.

I reported them to e-b-a-y. Their phone number is fake as well.

Looks like I'll be relisting soon.
