New box coming soon... in pieces!

Recently I had to ship my laptop out for repairs. I borrowed my old computer which I sold to my mom for the time being, and put in a 1 ghz p3 chip and Windows 2003 Server and fully loaded with programs it runs better than a fresh install of Windows XP does on my laptop.... like a lot better (which is a 3.8ghz machine for the record!).

Well this brought to my attention the need for a desktop - as I use a desktop more than a laptop at home. My goal was to spend $100 and buy something with a 40+gb hard drive, cdburner and at least 256 MB of RAM.

So I was browsing **** yesterday and I found a motherboard with 2 1.2ghz cpus and 2gb of ram for $200. I jumped on that, bought a case with a 450 watt power supply (I hope that works - the board is extended ATX, but only 2/3 of an inch larger than standard ATX specifications. EATX cases cost around $300!!!), DVD Burner, 200gb hard drive and a sound card. My friend is donating me a video card for it.

This should be nice. My friend is selling a nice sound card which I will buy in the future, which I can record off of!

If the case doesnt fit, you could always make your own. The hard forum has lots of case mod designs and stuff, its not necessary to put your pc in a real case plus its always cooler when they arent anyways

Re: New box coming soon... in pieces!

Sounds like work. Time and money are both something I do not have a lot of time for...

I was thinking of buying this real nice EATX case on **** anyway and using it for whatever future endevours I may have. It will house a regular ATX motherboard as well as an Extended, and as long as they do not stray from ATX as I do not think they will, it will last me many years.

But of course I am really broke as I have more bills to pay now than ever...
