A new cure for Tinnitus?

Hi guys, I've seen a video in a website where they treat tinnitus in a way different from ordinary sound masking.

What they do is to check what frequencies "ring" in your ears, and with a small device they would generate a sound wave to cancel those certain frequencies out so you would no longer hear the ringing sounds.

While this is very promising, I worry that such treatments may completely eliminate certain frequencies in our ears and limit our "sound scope" somewhat. What do you guys think?

No idea but can you post what website that is, because my father has the worst tinnitus problems and this would help him sleep at night.

Im sure my father would rather not hear that frequency ever again, if it means he can sleep...

Cheers !!

I've heard its insufferable, so I'd gladly take an EQ drop at a certain frequency than have ringing in my head 24/7

Here you go guys, I'm not sure about the efficacy though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrIO3K6bgDs

BTW, I meant treatment and not cure, sorry for the false hopes guys, I'm suffering from tinnitus too, and I really wish there would be a permanent solution to it.
According to the video and the website (www.tinnituscare.net) it could suppress the ringing for quite a while before needing another treatment session.

Re: A new cure for Tinnitus?

this is good news.

I have mild tinnitus (kind of like a very quiet hissing i can only hear when nothing else is generating noise or sound) from standing right at the front when Michael Angelo Batio was at Music Live in Birmingham - it was the first time i'd forgotten my earplugs!!

So you have to keep going back and spend money over your lifetime rather than a one-off payment. I'm surprised they released laser correction for eyes.

Re: A new cure for Tinnitus?

I have tinnitus in my left ear. A distinct loud high pitched ringing noise, I can tell you now when its quiet at night-time it is absolute murder!! (ive gotten used to it though)
So much so that I have taken to sleeping on my left hand side to muffle the noise.

Now, from seeing this cure technique I dont believe that it is a viable option. The problem is by counteracting the tinnitus frequency with another frequency to cancel the noise, surely will only provide future damage to the cochlea.

In fact, I think it is impossible to cure Tinnitus. Once the Cochlea is damaged it is damaged for good!

My personal recommendation is to invest in a good ear wax cleaner, and to really protect yourself from harsh (and in particular high frequency) noises.
