Pretty shocking traffic news, please sign the petition

I got an e-mail from Liggy this morning that had this attached...

Quote:
The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to
purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it.
The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC,
the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery
driver.
A non working Mum who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in
one month.
On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will
know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been
going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit you can expect a
NIP with your monthly bill.
If you care about our freedoms and stopping the constant bashing of the car
driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website
_http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax/ _

Is there any room in Germany for a Jemsiter and his missus?

Seriously though, how ridiculous is that???

I signed it straight away when I got the e-mail. When you go to the petition website it becomes clear that they mean business.

As law abiding tax paying motorists in this country we are seen as the biggest criminals going!!! Nothing surprises me anymore about this government trying to steal from us
How things have changed over the years. When i was a kid i come from a working class family,so it was always part of your culture that Labour was your party because they were for the working class. If this "new labour" had their way completely i would not be able to afford to drive. It will end up that plenty of people will only be able to work locally, vastly reducing job opportunities. It's a step back to the dark ages.
Public transport is expensive, dirty, unreliable, inconvenient, and ridiculously overcrowded as it is and there is no scope for improving it.

Dave...when ya settle in Germany can ya take in a lodger

Dude,

That's going on everywhere. Too much cars, too much pollution. What appalls me is seeing commuter traffic jams and in each car just 1 person.

We're f*cking up the globe big time, and nobody wants to start doing something about it. So the governments have to find ways to drive you out of your car. This is a step. When the oil hits 150$ a barrel, only the rich will be able to drive their cars...

Regards,

JP

Yeah tell me about it Andy. This is because they won't be able to squeeze much money out of smokers and drinkers soon. YET (without getting political) they still throw money around on absolute rubbish.

That'd be all well and good if they were doing it for the sake of the environment and not to fill their own pockets.

Re: Pretty shocking traffic news, please sign the petition

My company moved, and now I drive 55 miles each way to work. I work varying hours, so puplic transportations is not an option, nor is it even possible for this distance. I am stuck in traffic everyday and I hate it, but do not have a choice. So, forcing people to pay a driving tax is ridiculous. If we want to improve the environment, then govt needs to get serious and stop giving hand outs to business. For example, companies can get pollution credit in California for crushing pre smog control cars. This allows them to keep pumping pollution into the air, but they get credit for reducing emissions by buying junker cars which don't even run, and crushing them.

See this is the thing...

The British government won't allow electric cars on the road. Why? because don't forget, they get a large chunk of our petrol money too. They don't give a crap about the future environment

What "Freedom" are they trying to take away?? Don't misunderstand, they are just trying to make you pay more money for driving, this has nothing to do with freedom, just money. You can drive all you want, assuming of course you can pay for it.

Re: Pretty shocking traffic news, please sign the petition

I consider it taking away a freedom. The freedom to drive for free (other than paying for petrol and maint., etc)

Sheesh....as if the cost of petrol wasn't high enough over there. I think this is ridiculous Anything to make an extra buck
