ridiculous guitar adverts

<RANT>

Is it just me, or has anyone else looked at the adverts on here and other guitar websites, and realised they are such bullsheeeet?

"3 Guitar Secrets To Make You A Pro!"

"TOTAL NECK CONTROL INSTANTLY!"

"Become A Guitar Master In 1 Lesson!"

um, NO! The only thing that will get you where you want to be on guitar is dedication, study of musical architecture and theory, technique, and a LOT of metronoming !
So many n00bs must fall for these ridiculous claims and fork out their pennies only to be hit with some form of compressed guitar charts and definitions, they have no chance of understanding! ARGH!

Re: ridiculous guitar adverts

A man after my own heart, couldn't agree more mate.

Having said that, I'm just curious as to what kind of people actually see those ads and think "F**k me!! I could be like Vai in 24 hours!" Surely people have more sense?

Imitation of one of those people:

"Wow! I could be like Vai in 24 hours!"

< Clicks link. Charts and definitions appear >

"Awesome! I'm gonna be a total pro!"

< Goes out and buys JEM7VWH, then takes it home. >

"Wicked! ......... Now what?"

Re: ridiculous guitar adverts

Actually it's probably more like:

"Wow! I could be like Vai in 24 hours!"

< Clicks link. Charts and definitions appear >

"Awesome! I'm gonna be a total pro!"

< Goes to e-bay, sees a JEM7VWH for £50 with £200 shipping on a 'buy it now', pays with PayPal, man in China rubs hands in celebration >

It's sad but I can definitely see it happening

Re: ridiculous guitar adverts

The sad thing is that the fact that someone can pay for ads like this proves that there are sheep out there buying their products. Unfortunately there are a lot of people who do believe there is some kind of "secret" to it.

Master Bates, perhaps.

Ridiculous guitar ads go further than the magic lessons ...... the 2008 Ibanez catalogue is a good place to look for ridiculous. "Order now and we'll enclose a free black metal primer and a D&D set".

Re: ridiculous guitar adverts

Now I know this thread seems to be referring to guitar ads online for the most part, but my vote for ridiculous guitar ads has to go to the Schecter Guitars ads that ran in Guitar World as of late. It literally says "9/11: never forget" with the towers silhouetted in the background, and on the bottom it says "Schecter Guitars". (see below)

Apparently after doing some research just now I found out that they had a guitar made that was painted with a scene of the flag being raised in the ruins and sent several to NY fire houses and several to family/friends of victims. That's a very nice gesture, but I was completely baffled by this ad, which was simply as it appears below.

Re: ridiculous guitar adverts

Yeah, that Schecter ad is puzzling.

And I'm not sure what good sending guitars to family and friends of victims does if they don't play the guitar. (?)
