A ridiculous hypothetical question

Would you be able to give up playing guitar and all other instruments in exchange for ten more years of guaranteed healthy life?

Re: A ridiculous hypothetical question

Well, it's better to live a short life doing things that matter either to yourself or to others than to live long without meaning or reason. For me, playing music would probably be right there at the top along with the other things I cherish in life as reasons for existence, so I don't really mind if ever something like that were true.

OT: For some reason I thought about cigarette smoking )

Re: A ridiculous hypothetical question

Yes, and me not playing would make the world a better place to live for those 10 years.

Re: A ridiculous hypothetical question

I ask the question because I asked my golfing buddies the same thing about golf, 2 said they would give up golf and three said they would sacrifice ten years in order to keep golfing. I guess it depends on how much you really enjoy something. I gotta say as much as I love playing guitar, the older I get the easier the answer would be.

Re: A ridiculous hypothetical question

Yes, I would do it in a minute. 10 more years with my kids and (someday) grandkids? Heck, that might even be long enough to pay off my mortgage As long as I could tap my foot to the beat I'd live with it.

The technological advances coming in the next few decades are going to be insane if we can just manage not to kill each other first - I'd really love to see some it.

I love the guitar, no question. I own 14, I play every day, new guitars and music is honestly one of my favourite day dreams.

But, at the end of the day there are other, better things in life.

Re: A ridiculous hypothetical question

Sure. Guitar is just my preferred avenue for making music. I have slacked on learning other instruments because I'm halfway decent at guitar already and don't want to start over somewhere else.

But if some dictator took over the world and banned guitar, I'd happily learn something else. Banjo, keyboard/piano, sitar, etc. The end game (music) is more important.

If my arms were chopped off, I'd buy a theramin and use my head/body to control it.

This struck me as ridiculously funny because as I was reading from the top of the thread to the bottom, I was thinking almost the exact same thing. Only I've been playing for 23 years...
